True values, or How many sons did Taras Bulba have

"Taras Bulba" is a brilliant story by the great Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, which reveals for a thinking person such an abyss of relationships and feelings that all modern literature can not boast of.

If it's short ...

The dramatic events of the story begin with the description of the arrival of the sons of the Cossack colonel Taras Bulba home after the end of the Kiev Bursa (Academy). By the way, often the readers have a question about how many sons were in Taras Bulba. The answer is given by Gogol from the very first lines of the story: the sons of Bulba had two - the elder Ostap and the youngest Andriy.

Immediately after the meeting, a serious brawl begins between the father and the children, which is stopped by the kind and painful mother of Ostap and Andriya. Gogol immediately immerses his reader in the old world of the patriarchal organization of the family, when the father runs the family, but how he does it determines the mother. And how many sons Taras Bulba has is not so important, because the only woman in this house will have enough love and tenderness at all.

And the love of the mother is able to work miracles

Unfortunately, in the case of Taras Bulba and his sons, the miracle of maternal love turned out to be a bitter property. She dearly loved the younger - Andria, and her husband more than his sons, loved his homeland and a kind of ghost of freedom, after which in all ages a person struggles for his independence with another man.

Maybe because the mother loved the younger, and the father - the older one, and the question arises as to how many sons Taras Bulba had: two or one? Whatever it was, the mother's love taught Andriya to love. Only not the homeland and freedom, as the father wanted, but the young Polish pannochku. He did not want to go where his father and elder brother were leading, he just wanted to live and love.

And what's next?

It is difficult to imagine the feelings of a father forced by someone invented by the laws of morality to kill his son. Bulba kills Andria, and from this moment his whole life focuses on the eldest son. Father's love is a much more powerful force than maternal love. But even she is not able to save a person from death.

So it turns out that, striving for freedom, we excommunicate ourselves or our neighbor from life in general. So it happened with Bulba. Before his eyes, the eldest son is executed. This episode of the story is so dramatic that the heart contracts.

It does not matter how many sons Taras Bulba had. It is important to understand what Gogol wanted to say. But, it seems, we will not understand this to the end.
