Travels. Putyatin Island, Primorye Territory

Putyatin Island stands out for its extraordinary beauty against the background of the remaining eleven islands located in the Gulf of Peter the Great. The bay has a huge area (9 thousand square kilometers) and is considered the largest in the Sea of Japan. Putyatin Island is popular with tourists who, at the first opportunity, try to visit this beautiful corner of Primorsky Krai in Russia. This is confirmed by a lot of excursions.

Location:

The Peter the Great Bay consists of six small ones. In one of them - the Gulf of Shooters - is Putyatin Island. It is 50 kilometers southeast of Vladivostok. Cape Startseva on the island and Cape Shooter on the mainland shares 1.5 kilometers. The length from the north to the south is 14 kilometers, and the territory of the land overhanging the water is 27.9 square kilometers. Km. In the southern part there is a rocky ridge, the so-called kekury called "five fingers", from which you can contemplate the nearby island of Askold. The relief is represented mainly by mountains, among which the mountain Startseva (353 m) rises in the north. Putyatin Island (Primorsky Krai) is a very picturesque place.

The coastline has a rugged shape, the landscape is diverse - the elevations alternate with either ravines or with valleys. In the composition of the granites of the eastern coast there is a quartz layer, the southern one - granite with a shade of red.

Historical digression

In 1858 on the way of the sail-screw clipper the island met. The crew of the vessel made his description and put it on the map. The island was named after Russian admiral Putyatin E.V.

Efim Vasilievich held high state posts, including a diplomat. In the 1950s, he led an expedition involving two frigates, Pallas and Diana, during which the eastern coast of the Primorye Territory was explored and described. The merits of this expedition include the discovery of such objects as the Rimsky-Korsakov archipelago, the bays of Olga and Posiet. In the 60 years of the 19th century, another Russian expedition under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Babkin VM was engaged in the survey of the Peter the Great Bay. The island of Putyatin was studied in detail. The coves were marked on the relevant maps back in those days.

The island in the 90s of the XIX century

Before the island was open, there were no settlements of people on it. With the arrival of warm summer days, fishermen from the mainland came here. The settlement of the island began in the 90s of the 19th century. It began with the fact that in the summer of 1891, the son of the famous Decembrist Bestuzhev, Alexei Startsev, visited and examined him. At that time he was a merchant of the first guild. He was known as a talented and educated entrepreneur.

Subsequently, Startsev decided to rent the island for 99 years, after which he substantiated on it the estate "Native", in which his family settled.

Entrepreneurial activity on the island

Possessing an extraordinary entrepreneurial grasp, Startsev soon developed his business at full power. At first, a brick factory appeared, where modern production equipment was installed at that time, and each brick was stamped. Many buildings in Vladivostok can testify to the great demand for brick from the island. Since then, the island of Putyatin (Primorye Territory) has become very famous throughout the Far East.

Not much time has passed since the start of the operation of the brick factory, as a porcelain factory grew up near it - the pride of Startsev, whose products were no worse than Chinese in quality. The next project that the entrepreneur tried to realize was the production of silk. For this, silkworm was sent here specially, then it was grown here. Soon I began to go for a ferry to Putyatin Island.

Another achievement of the descendant of the Decembrist is the breeding of the breed of horses, which was obtained by crossing a Transbaikalian horse and an English horse. Transbaikalian breed possessed endurance and unpretentiousness. Livestock on the island gradually expanded. The farm bred Holmogorsky cows, Yorkshire pigs, as well as ducks and geese of exclusively known breeds.

In addition, a deer farm was built and a kennel for snakes was created. The inhabitants of the island were provided with honey and fruits thanks to the bee apiary organized here, the planted garden and vineyards, all the more so because the weather allowed them to do all that. The island of Putyatin blossomed, the residents were grateful to the talented entrepreneur for providing high-paying work.

For those times there was a well-developed infrastructure with good roads. The inexhaustible energy and hard work of Alexei Dmitrievich turned into a blossoming island oasis once a wild land. The efforts did not go unnoticed by the Fatherland, the medals for achievements in agriculture, participation in exhibitions became evidence of this.

The End of Prosperity

The island flourished as long as the host was alive. However, after his sudden death in 1900, gradual wilting began. After the October Revolution of 1917 the nationalization of property was carried out with the subsequent creation on its basis of an animal state farm.

The village and the southern part of the island is connected by a road near which you can see the monument to Startsev - a man who breathed life into a deserted locality. Grateful residents immortalized an outstanding businessman in the autumn of 1989.

Unfortunately, in the village there is a gradual decrease in the number of inhabitants. Now there are no more than 700 people. The house of Alexei Startsev stood for almost a hundred years.

Nature of Putyatin Island

The territory is covered with hardwood forest. Among thickets of oak, there are bushes of elderberry and dogrose, and from trees - linden, maple, manchurian nut. It is a picturesque area with beautiful bays, rocks and magnificent meadows. The island is full of berries and mushrooms.

A relic plant, existing almost 100 million years, can be considered an island's landmark. The lotus grows on the lake Gusin. According to the famous Buddhist legend, the bud of this flower became the birthplace of the Buddha. Lotus flowers blossom every year after July 20. So the island of Putyatin was once a beautiful flower with a developed infrastructure, which soon closed its petals.
