Tossa de Mar, Spain. On the ruins of the old fortress

The small cozy resort of Tossa de Mar (Spain) is the gateway to the Costa Brava. They come here by bus from Girona or Lloret. They stop at a small bus station near the upper road. And then you need to go down to the city itself. This is a very nice, cozy and quiet place. There are no loud crowds, everything is very quiet and peaceful. Green picturesque rocks, covered with pine trees and other evergreen plants, surround the town. On the way to the center you can visit the excavations of a Roman villa with mosaic floors and remnants of the term - and for free. And then - to wander around the city of Tossa de Mar. Spain's seaside, especially Catalonia, is famous for its benches, cafes and shops with local souvenirs. But do not forget that there is a very long siesta, so it's better to do shopping in the evening.

Like other resorts of the Costa Brava, Tossa has a beautiful wide embankment, on both sides of which grow broad palms. It goes along the Great Beach with a Minerva statue - pebbly, landscaped, with berths of pleasure and sightseeing boats that carry tourists along all grottoes and coasts of the coast. And from this sea avenue you can see the medieval walls of the fortress of Tossa de Mar. Spain is proud of this Catalan stronghold - because she stood against the times, she is more than eight hundred years old. It is worthwhile to come here at least in order to view this grand open-air museum, its majestic towers and the ruins of churches. Even the cobbled streets are preserved. Ruins can be viewed both on foot and on a special tourist train.

The fortress of the resort of Tossa de Mar (Spain) is often described in various guidebooks as a special separate castle of the local ruler. In fact, like many Mediterranean settlements, it included a medieval city in its walls . It is still available not only for visiting - there people live in old, flower-lined houses. There is a museum of local lore with a picture of Marc Chagall. And the former castle itself became an observation platform for contemplating panoramic views. At the highest place - a beacon pointing the way to the ships. There is also a very romantic restaurant where you can not only eat well, but also enjoy the unspeakable landscapes that Catalonia (Northern Spain) is famous for.

Tossa de Mar guest houses offers small, but lovely and cozy. Near the center of the city are two or three-story houses, where sometimes there is not even a restaurant. However, you will not remain hungry, so many tempting offers to eat here - zucchini, taverns with Spanish, Catalan, Mediterranean cuisine, tapas (starter snacks), fish and "meat in chocolate" - just your eyes are scattered. And a little further away you can already find the usual resort hotels with the whole range of services. But quite often tourists rent apartments here - it's cheaper and involves more authentic rest.

Still this town will like not only lovers of ancient history and the Middle Ages. From Tossa, many cycling and walking paths along the rocks, over the sea, among white chic private villas in the forests and nature parks of the entire coast start. The most popular route is the trek from Tossa to the neighboring resort of Lloret de Mar. The footpath passes through pine groves and descends into several beautiful bays of the Costa Brava. The opportunity to walk around picturesque, something reminiscent of the Crimean New World trails, is also known Tossa de Mar (Spain). The map of the area may be needed so that you will not get lost. But she will kindly provide you with a tourist information center, and even tell you which path to choose.
