The theme of the homeland in the work of Alexander Blok.

Each poet depicted his own country in his own way. Someone in the image of the mother, someone claimed that the native land is a mother or lover. Some personified it, tried to show it as an individual who also experiences, suffers, loves and tolerates.

Alexander Alexandrovich managed to combine several variants of images. At the same time, with each new poem opens a new image of the Motherland in Blok's lyrics. But this does not mean that the perception of his native land is dissipated, his attitude to him is changing. The poet understands and accepts the Motherland in all its multifacetedness, greatness and poverty, grace and suffering.

The concept of the homeland for the Bloc

The theme of the Motherland in Blok's work was not present initially. She became the final stage of his life. But it was he who became one of the most important in the fate of the poet.

Blok did not come to such a topic immediately. It appeared after the long wanderings of the poet and many experienced sufferings. This contributed to the complete immersion of A. Blok in the subject. And that is why he did not confine himself to the stereotyped image of the Motherland, as an abstract magnitude. Or, on the contrary, as a certain territory, the existence of which is limited in the space-temporal continuum.

That is, Russia does not exist for him only now, and only from one border pillar to another on the surface. It penetrates into things and destinies, dissipates in the air, absorbed into the earth.

It is natural that with such an understanding and experience of the topic, the image of the Motherland in Blok's work can not have one face and the same reflection in the mirror of poetic mastery.

Variants of the image of the Motherland by the Bloc

To maximally accurately reflect their experiences about the native land, Blok used his poetic image in several variants. Literary critics distinguish such variants in which the Homeland is displayed in Blok's lyrics:

  • Fabulous - not a personified image of a magical land, with fairy-tale creatures, riddles, mysterious forests;
  • Romanticism - The homeland is portrayed as the beloved of a young boy, tender, quivering, unique;
  • Historicism is an edge that has a past, a history, and one can not ignore them;
  • Poverty and suffering - not so much the image of the Motherland, as the generalization of its inhabitants, who undergo not the best of times. But they do not betray their land, but accept it as it is, but with the hope of positive changes;
  • The generalized image of a living being - the Homeland is a living being similar to man, but the characteristic is given only by means of abstract concepts, and not by specifying certain features of appearance;
  • Optimism - in this way Blok expresses his hopes for the bright future of the country, believes in the coming favorable changes.

Fantastic motifs in the image

The image of Russia, as a land of fabulous, mythical, is found in the poem "Rus." Not only the described landscape resembles the folkloric characteristics of the invented terrain, but also the mention of unreal creatures, such as witches, wizards, sorcerers, traits and others. Elements of the surrounding - maze, swamps - are also often used in mythological tales.

The colors that emerge in the imagination in this description are mainly black, gray, dirty green, brown.

But the abrupt transition to a calm, peaceful contemplation of nature not only makes it clear that the first impression was erroneous. Such a sharp contrast emphasizes the mystery of Russia - the darkness and fears, the silence and laziness (the sea is lazily washed by the banks, the yellow precipice, the fields).

Romanticization of the image of the motherland

But the mythologization of the Motherland's image is not Blok's innovation. Many of his predecessors turned to this method. Another thing is that he gave a fairy tale and reality in sharp contrast.

As you know, mythical images are inherent in the era of romanticism. But Blok was not a romantic, because the sublime images in his poetry take on a different character from those of his predecessors. Thus, the poet did not approach the destiny of the Motherland from a philosophical, abstract point of view. He loved Russia, as they love a woman - selflessly, passionately.

But, as Alexander Alexandrovich himself said, this is because in the world of poetry, in which he strives to be everywhere, there is no division into one's own and the common. Everything that is common to the heart of the poet becomes automatically personal. Intimate in poetry is carried out for everyone to see, to be heard and understood.

The motherland is a woman. Beloved, a young beauty, a wife, but not a mother, as Blok's predecessors imagined in her work. It is an unbridled, strong, enticing diva, but at the same gentle, gentle, beautiful. The poet gives an image of intimization, endowing him with those traits that are inherent and sung to the same beautiful Lady.

As a decadent, he claims that only beautiful is worth loving. Suffering is also an exalted feeling that everyone must accept and pass through himself, without losing himself. Therefore, in order to love Russia, you first need to feel compassion, to understand the depth of her sorrows.

Russia in the diachronic section

The theme of the Motherland in Blok's work is not limited only to the author's present. In order to better understand the nature of this phenomenon, he resorted to historical excursions.

Concepts Russia, Rodina Blok identifies, and therefore the history of the country is inseparable from the life of every person who inhabits it. This is if we consider concepts in a romantic context, too. So, we are interested in the past of the beloved, her destiny, as a patriot - is tempted by history.

The cycle of poems "On the Kulikovo Field" is devoted to the history of Russia. He gives a panoramic image of the life of the country from the Mongol-Tatar yoke and to the present day. In addition, the poet expresses his hopes for a bright future for Russia, because it seeks to advance, much has prevailed, suffered, and after that invariably comes prosperity.

Russia is poor and long-suffering

As in the contrast of landscapes, Russia is a heterogeneous country in general well-being. It is also about the poverty of individual citizens, which is adjacent to the incredible wealth of others, and about the fate of the country as a whole. Hardly worrying about the share of his native land in difficult political and economic conditions, the poet nevertheless expresses deep confidence that everything will change.

Even in the "golden years" in Russia, "three worn out tracks" rattled, and the painted spokes were knotted into loose ruts. That is, everyone tries to acquire personal material prosperity, forgetting about the public. This is one of the key, in the author's opinion, problems of Russian society.

With all this external begging, Blok emphasizes the fertile soil, the wealth of the earth. The poet describes the feeling of love for the Motherland as pure, naive, virgin. It is the theme of the Motherland in Blok's poetry that echoes the motives for experiencing the first love and its tears. The same suffering, crystal, unsullied, he suffers when he thinks about the fate of the country.

Personalized image without reference to specifics

A new vision of the image of the native land gives us an analysis of the poem "Motherland". Block in its cycle gives us an understanding of the image of Russia as well as a personified person. But there is no binding to a specific person or collective image.

The Motherland acts as something, or rather, someone generalized. Alive, but ephemeral. It is behind the author's soul as his main wealth and the greatest suffering.

The country breaks away from the earthly, material and appears as a higher matter. Rather, it is not the very image of the Motherland, namely, love for it. This suggests the partial departure of the Bloc from decadence. He lives in a world not material, but in a sublime, detached from earthly cares. But then he admits that he is attached to the real being - the Motherland.

Optimism in the image of Russia

With all the pessimistic, at first glance, image of Russia, the theme of the Motherland in Blok's poetry is nevertheless highlighted in an optimistic vein. The author hopes for an early change in the situation. He explains this by a simple law of justice, which necessarily re-enacts. Russia, which has undergone many revolutions, wars, devastation, poverty, simply can not help becoming a superpowerful rich power.

He compares it with a troika, which is harnessed by dashing horses that do not know rest. This is not terrible, either "loose track" or blizzard.

So a cycle of poems was born, which only Blok - "Motherland" could write at that time. The analysis of poems from the cycle gives confidence in a bright future and hope in better times.

Means for creating the image of the motherland

One of the most common means that a poet uses is personification. The theme of the Motherland in Blok's work acquires a close sound, Russia itself turns into a young girl, then into a wild and unbridled woman, it becomes a fairy place.

The theme of the Motherland in Blok's poetry is also revealed through the development of the image. On this, almost all variants of the presentation of the image are built, to a greater or lesser extent, which is confirmed by the analysis of the poem. "Motherland", Blok reasonably chose such a simple name for the cycle. This is the result of the poet's work, the expression on paper of all his thoughts and worries that have accumulated throughout life.

Innovation of the Bloc in the depiction of the Motherland

The predecessors of the poet in the depiction of the Motherland also used such means as personification. And many of them enlivened the image, instilling it into a woman's appearance. But the theme of the Motherland in Blok's work has acquired a new sound - it's not the mother, as others have described it, but the girlfriend, the bride, the wife. That is, she goes to grief, and joy goes shoulder to shoulder with a lyrical hero. And does not patronize, and she needs protection.

It is also unusual for the presentation of an image in the form of something alive, but at the same time abstract. Russia is not a picture, an image, but an object associated with each of its things.
