The pharmacological action of ethacridine lactate

Etacridine lactate is a substance that has a powerful antibacterial effect. It is aimed at combating streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, the drug has an antihelminthic effect. The solution is also used for disinfection.

The solution of ethacridine lactate is prescribed for treatment of:

• Fresh wounds, eczema;

• Infectious diseases of mucous tissues (they can include rhinitis, pharyngitis, conjunctivitis);

• abscesses;

• pleurisy;

• peritonitis;

• complications of joint diseases;

• gynecological diseases.

Dosage

In gynecology, a solution of ethacridine lactate in diluted form is used.

As a rule, it is used to improve well-being with ailments associated with the genitourinary system and vaginitis.

0.05-0.2% solution of ethacridine lactate is intended for compresses and tampons.

0.1-0.5% liquid is suitable for treating the pleural and abdominal cavities during surgery.

Ointment with 1% content of the drug and 5% paste is prescribed for diseases of the skin and joints.

As for the application of ethacridine lactate to the affected areas, you need to do this several times throughout the day. The exact amount should be prescribed by a doctor. In certain diseases of the gastrointestinal mucosa, a medicine can be prescribed in a tablet form. For internal use, the doctor can prescribe 0.03 grams of medication 3 times a day, but not more than 0.15 g per day.

Contraindications

Such an antiseptic substance as ethacridine lactate has the following limitations:

  • Individual intolerance to ethacridine;
  • Excess protein in the urine.
