The main consumable material for welding - welding wire

Welding wire is used for various welding operations, it is the main consumable material, which acts as an electrode. It is fed into the working zone at the melting rate and ensures the continuity of the process itself. Welding wire allows you to get a high quality seam.

About marking

The type of wire used depends on the type of welding and the materials to be joined. Every competent welder knows that the welding wire must have a composition similar to that of the metals being joined. So, for welding aluminum, stainless, carbon or alloy steel, it is produced with the name and composition corresponding to the above materials.

Each of the 77 existing wire types has its own marking according to GOST, which regulates its standard physical and chemical parameters: metal quality, diameter, carbon content, presence of alloying substances, etc.

Consider the marking on the example of Sv-08g2c-this is the most used welding wire for semiautomatic machines. It accounts for 95% of all sales of consumables used in semi-automatic welding.

So: the letters "Sv" mean that the welding wire, "08" - the mass fraction of carbon 0.08%, "G" - in the wire there is the presence of manganese, and the figure "2" indicates its two-percent content, "C" - content Silicon, and since the figure is not specified, it is less than 1%. This marking makes it clear that low-alloyed carbon welding wire is used to work with low-alloy steels (which is 90% of rolled metal). Standard analogues, but having an international classification, are produced all over the world.

Copperplated welding wire

Recently, the universal use of welding wire copper-coated Sv-08g2SO.

Thanks to the coating, it improves the stability of the welding arc, reduces the spraying level, and also gives a smooth and clean seam of high quality with low porosity and a high degree of tightness. The use of such a wire in the welding of structures makes their operation more reliable. It is not critical to the use of various types of equipment and is applicable to welding installations of any class. Can also be used for robotic welding.

Powder, stainless, aluminum ...

In automatic welding, the welding powder has the best effect. It looks like a tube of low-carbon soft steel, filled with powder. The filler includes stabilizers of arc combustion, deoxidizers, ferroalloys, slag-forming substances. Such a wire makes it possible to minimize the formation of slag in the welding process, and therefore, to reduce the work on the cleaning of the seam.

Many industries, in particular the production of medical equipment, shipbuilding, power engineering, require the welding of stainless steels. In this case, a stainless welding wire with high corrosion resistance is used, which provides a high quality weld.

For welding alloys containing aluminum, as well as structures of this metal, there is a special aluminum wire. In addition, it serves for the sputtering process.

The basic rule of choosing a welding wire

Welding requires extensive professional knowledge, a responsible approach to the choice of consumable raw materials. For welding of structures it is inadmissible to use a random wire of incomprehensible marking and unknown composition. This can lead to collapse of structures due to a faulty seam. The chemical composition of the filler material should be as close as possible to the composition of the metal to be welded.
