The drug "Metipred" for what appoint? "Metipred": indications for use

Some diseases can occur with a certain resistance to drugs, i.e., do not respond to the administration of drugs. In such cases, as a rule, resort to the use of glucocorticoids. One of such drugs is "Metipred". What is the purpose of this medicine and what does it represent?

What is this preparation?

"Metipred" refers to the group of synthetic glucocorticosteroids, ie, it is an artificially synthesized analogue of hormones. It has anti-inflammatory activity, has an anti-allergic effect, relieves swelling, somewhat lowers the activity of immunity, restores metabolic disorders.

The mechanism of its action is based on the reaction with specific receptors located in many tissues. Due to the connection with them, special proteins are formed, which are responsible for the regulation of most vital processes.

The medicine has an effect on all kinds of metabolic processes in the body.

Since the drug belongs to the group of glucocorticosteroids, it is prescribed only in certain cases, when the basic drugs shown for the treatment of this disease become ineffective.

In which cases can you use "Metipred"? What is it prescribed for this or that disease?

Indications for use

What diseases require hormonal drugs for their treatment? What kind of ailments is "MetiPred" shown? What is the prescription for this medicine?

First of all, the purpose of this drug is mandatory for systemic diseases of connective tissue. As such they are: systemic scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, all vasculitis, dermatomyositis. In these cases, the hormone helps to reduce the inflammatory process, restore metabolism in the affected tissues.

Rheumatology is also widely used by Metipred. Indications for use are acute inflammatory joint diseases: arthritis of gouty and psoriatic etiology, osteoarthritis, bursitis, synovitis, Bekhterev's disease. The main effect of the drug in these diseases is anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

You can use "Metipred" for bronchial asthma and various chronic allergic diseases.

Dosage of the drug

In what doses is the use of Metipred shown? It should be remembered that when prescribing this medicine, as well as other hormones, you need to take into account the circadian rhythms of the body, as well as the function of the adrenal cortex. The dose for each patient is selected individually.

The daily amount of the hormone is best taken in the morning (it is usually advised to drink the whole dose in the interval from 6 to 8 am, or divide it into two doses at 8 and 12 o'clock). Similar dosing is observed in all hormonal drugs. Metizred is not an exception.

Tablets are taken directly during or after a meal. In children, the dose is determined according to age and body weight.

The norm of the drug is from 4 to 50 mg per day. A higher dose (up to 1 g) is indicated in patients with systemic diseases of connective tissue of extreme severity. Particular attention should be paid to prescribing the drug before organ transplantation to the recipient or in case of in vitro fertilization.

Side effects

With proper dosing of the drug and compliance with all prescriptions of the doctor at its reception, side effects almost never develop. However, it should be remembered that if the reception conditions are violated, sufficiently severe conditions may develop. What can lead to the use of this medication?

"Metipred" primarily has a negative impact on the endocrine system. There may be a decrease in glucose tolerance, development of Isenko-Cushing syndrome, delay in sexual development (when assigned to children).

The digestive system can react to the administration of the drug by the development of nausea and vomiting, stool changes, pancreatitis, ulcers, up to bleeding and perforation of the stomach wall.

The influence of Metipred on the cardiovascular system is manifested in the form of arrhythmias, bradycardia, deterioration of the body's state in heart failure.

On the part of the nervous system, a delirium-like condition is most often observed, the development of psychoses, paranoia, insomnia and dizziness.

Contraindications

When is it not worth using this medicine? "Metipred" can only be used for a short period of time. With a longer reception, the list of contraindications is significantly expanded.

With care use a medicine for such diseases of the digestive tract, as ulcers, gastritis, ulcerative colitis, transferred operations on the digestive tract.

Many infectious diseases are also included in the list of relative contraindications, since it is not known how the organism will react to the introduction of a hormonal drug. Another condition that prohibits the use of hormones is their immunosuppressive effect.

Do not use the drug for diabetes, obesity.

Children and pregnant women belong to the category with absolute contraindications to the use of Metipred. You can only assign it if there is a significant threat to life.

Interaction with other drugs

As is known, many drugs can enhance, weaken or neutralize the effect of another drug. How does "Metipred" react with parallel prescription of other drugs?

The use of this drug with inducers of hepatic enzymes leads to a decrease in the concentration of the active substance in the blood (its metabolism is increased).

If you prescribe Medipred with diuretics, the risk of developing heart failure and hypokalemia is significantly increased.

Pulse therapy "Metipredom" with the simultaneous appointment of cardiac glycosides by an order of magnitude increases the risk of developing ventricular extrasystole.

It is not necessary to use together methylprednisolone and anticoagulants, as the therapeutic effect of the latter worsens.

Taking a drug with alcohol and non-steroidal drugs leads to an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal ulcers.

"Metipred" reduces the effectiveness of injected insulin and antihypertensive drugs.

Instructions for use

In what dosage forms can there be "Metipred"? What is the purpose of each of them? Let's look at these issues in more detail.

"Metipred" (tablets) is prescribed for non-severe forms of diseases, as well as in the absence of contraindications to oral administration.

Liofilizate - a special form of the drug, which is a powder for dilution and intravenous administration. Applied mainly in severe forms of disease, as well as in providing emergency assistance.

The resulting solution is recommended to be used immediately. If you need to store it for a while, then it should be done at a temperature of 15 to 20 degrees. At lower values, you can keep the prepared preparation for no more than a day.

In order to protect the patient's health, it is recommended to use antacids in parallel (to protect the mucous membrane).

Before using the medication, always consult with your doctor about the dose of the drug and the frequency of its administration.

"Metipred" in the treatment of infertility

In gynecology, as in other areas of medicine, also use "Metipred." What is the prescription for this medicine?

The main use of the drug is suppression of immunity during in vitro fertilization.

ECO is a procedure, the essence of which is to isolate an egg from a woman, fertilize it in a test tube with a male sperm and insert the resulting zygote into the uterus.

"Metipred" with IVF is indicated for some suppression of immunity. It is recommended to apply a few days after the transfer of the zygote into the uterine cavity. This is done in order to exclude the possibility of rejection by the body of a "foreign object".

With a favorable outcome, the implantation of the embryo into the uterine mucosa, the formation of the placenta and intrauterine growth of the embryo takes place.

"Metipred" with IVF is shown to all women. If there are contraindications to its use, it is better to refuse from in vitro fertilization.

Some diseases of the female reproductive system may require the appointment of hormones. "Metipred" in gynecology is occasionally used to treat leukoplakia and certain inflammatory processes.

Treatment of systemic diseases

With these conditions, as a rule, resort to the so-called pulse therapy. The essence of this method of treatment is as follows: for a short period of time (usually 1-2 days), the patient is given a fairly large dose of the drug, and then within a few weeks (depending on the severity and type of disease) - a maintenance dose of the drug.

For example, in the treatment of systemic vasculitis, this scheme is as follows: the drug "Metipred" is first administered at a dose of 1000 mg, after which the patient is transferred to maintenance therapy (80-100 mg).

Such a scheme is spread due to high efficiency.

The introduction of a large dose contributes to the "stress" of the disease and the development of the so-called metabolic malfunction. In this case, the affected organism is easier to restore normal reactions than without such a strong effect. Also, at the expense of a large dose, it is possible to inhibit most of the immune cells.

Pulse therapy can be supplemented with cytostatics to achieve a more pronounced immunosuppressive effect.

Importance of using the drug

This medicine can not just be bought in a pharmacy. Only the attending physician can issue a prescription for "Metipred". Indications for use should be strong (eg, systemic inflammatory diseases). Only in this case the pharmacist will be able to give you the drug you need.

Another feature of the medication is that when it is used for a long time, addiction or the emergence of an abstinence syndrome is possible.

It develops in the case when "Metipred" was appointed for a long time and in large doses. In parallel, there is a depression of the hormones produced in the adrenal glands. In this case, do not immediately cancel the drug. It is recommended to gradually reduce the dose over a long period of time. Only under such conditions, the normal synthesis of hormones can be restored.
