The contingent is ... What is a peacekeeping contingent, limited, decreed

The word "contingent" has quite a lot of synonyms. These include concepts such as category, number, quota, number, circle, composition. Interpretations, as you can see, are many.

The essence of the word "contingent"

The usual application of the term is the human community. In this case, he means a certain group of people, selected according to a specific feature. It can be the set goal or task, around or to achieve which there is a union of people. There may be a common interest or a common danger, insecurity of a particular stratum of the population. A contingent is always a collection of someone or something, united by a specific purpose. The next, fairly common interpretation of this word means the limit number, rate or quota of something allocated for some purpose.

Origin and application

The very word "contingent" came from the new Latin contingents (contiguous or adjacent), which in turn derived from the Latin contingere (touch).

Touch, touch, be adjacent, similar, have one common feature - this is how the notion of "contingent" appeared in its modern interpretation.

There is another figurative meaning of this word. The contingent is all that is due to a duty on someone's share, or otherwise - a share, part of the contribution. But most often the "contingent" means a group of people united to achieve some goal or as a general feature. This has a social, industrial and military interpretation. In our time there is a newspaper with this title, the subjects of which are related to the army. The contingent is also the name of the musical collective, which has a rather extensive repertoire (2334) of military songs.

Interpretation of the medical term

This word has found application in medical terminology. There are large groups of people in need of state custody. This is the provision of benefits or special working conditions. All of them together represent a "decreed contingent". These are old people and children, adolescents, pregnant women and women of childbearing age, people with disabilities and war, medical workers who are constantly exposed to the risk of infection. They are all citizens of the state, who need his attention, protection and help. This contingent includes unhealthy people who are registered, for example, patients with tuberculosis. Particular attention is paid to children.

Medical workers at all levels represent a particularly vulnerable group of people who are constantly at risk of infection. According to some reports, infection with parenteral hepatitis alone (viral hepatitis B, C, D) in the medical environment annually is quite a large number of cases.

All the concepts associated with the reckoning of people to a particular group of people in the decree of the contingent are strictly defined and legalized. In the first years of the Soviet rule, the laws were called decrees, hence the name "decreed". The receipt of all types of privileges assigned to a particular group of this contingent is guaranteed by law.

Military-political significance of the term

In our time of non-subsiding local wars , the notion of a "peacekeeping contingent" is more common than others. It implies a limited part of the troops of one country being sent to another with a mission, most often with the aim of establishing order and forcibly ending hostilities in the territory of that country. The most famous peacekeeping contingents are part of the United Nations peacekeeping force. Their declared goal is to prevent threats to peace and security. The permission to use them is given by the UN Security Council. Coercion to the world can be a demonstration of power, and a military blockade. They can be applied strictly in those cases (in any case, as it is declared), when diplomatic and economic measures are exhausted. These peacekeeping forces attach great importance. In their honor, a celebration was organized - the International Day of the Peacemaker. And in 1988, these forces were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Usually the phrase "limited military contingent" is voiced - and it is always attached to the phrase "peacekeeping mission". But not always stated goals correspond to reality.

Other uses of this word

When asked what contingent is, you can answer that it is a combination of something (people, means, actions) aimed at achieving the goal.

In statistics, too, there is the term "contingent". It is used to verify and confirm hypotheses. Here the contingent is a collection of the experimental material you are interested in (animals, organisms or a group of people who agreed to the experiment), assembled to generalize the results.

In the customs law there is a definition of "tariff contingent". It defines a strictly limited quantity of goods, duty-free (or reduced duties), the import of which is allowed on the territory of the country.
