The coat of arms of Simferopol: description, meaning and history

Simferopol is a city that is the capital of the Republic of Crimea. Here are all the government bodies, the enterprises that determine the development directions of the region are concentrated. Nevertheless, the city has its own history and its symbols. The coat of arms of Simferopol changed several times in its short history, the same goes for the flag.

Due to its convenient geographical location, Crimea has always been a welcome catch for neighboring countries. The history of this land knew many battles and victories, which was reflected in the symbolism. But there are things that are more important for the inhabitants of the region than feats of arms. Let's study everything carefully.

Description of the emblem of Simferopol

The symbol of the city consists of several elements. In the center - a French shield, it is divided into two unequal areas by a silver wave-like strip. The upper part of the surface is painted in azure color, the lower part is red. The coat of arms of Simferopol in the middle is decorated with a golden bee. Under it on the red field is an antique yellow amphora. The shield is crowned with a crown decorated with the colors of the flag of Crimea. On the sides of the main element are half-wafers made of oak with acorns. The branches have a natural color and are wrapped in a ribbon of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. The name of the city is written at the bottom. The coat of arms of Simferopol in its present form was approved by the local representative body in 2006, when the Crimea is still part of Ukraine. With the change in statehood, the authorities did not think about changing the symbolism, since it completely reflects the essence of the city and is not connected with political misunderstandings between the countries.

The coat of arms of Simferopol and its meaning

Symbols of any region relies on history. It is officially believed that the city was founded in 1784, although in this area there have been nomadic settlements since more ancient times. Its name in Greek means "city of good". This is not just a beautiful play on words, but the essence of this settlement. Its position is such that the city is the center of all the roads passing through the peninsula. This factor is reflected in the image of the emblem.

Consider the emblem of Simferopol (the image below). In the center of it, a bee flaunts unexpectedly. However, it has never been a particularly successful development of this branch of agriculture in this territory. Bee - this is the essence of the city, collecting the gifts of nature and human labor, concentrating all the best that is being developed in this region. She flies through the azure field over the silver ribbon. It's two more iconic elements.

Explanation of the coat of arms

The shield is divided into azure and scarlet parts. The upper with the bee symbolizes the beauty and uniqueness of the city. Below it there is a ribbon - a reflection of the Salgir River, flowing through this area, giving life to people. In the lower part of the shield is the antique amphora as a symbol of the ancient history of the territory on which the city arose. Here at one time lived the ancient Scythians, who cultivated the land, created the first buildings, ennobled the terrain. By the way, the flag of Simferopol contains the same elements. In its center there is a bee and thicket on a stylized shield. This image is considered a small emblem of the city.

But we will continue to describe the symbols. The wormwood field calls to recall the courage and valor of peoples who did not spare the blood and life itself for the sake of protecting the small homeland. The authors attributed this element to the Scythians, but to the same extent, heroism was characteristic of later inhabitants of this region. Administration of Simferopol in 2006 initiated a competition for a new coat of arms. Of all the options, the current one was chosen and approved.

Why the city symbols?

The approval of the coat of arms and the flag is not just a tribute to tradition. It is probably difficult to see at first glance. However, let's think about why the symbolism of the capital of Crimea did not change after reunification with the Russian Federation? The fact is that it was originally created in the spirit of kinship with the Motherland. The administration of Simferopol, as well as in the whole Crimea, thought through political moments when she studied projects of the future symbolism of the regions. Probably, to inhabitants of other regions of Russia it will seem strange, and local understand that they had no other way than return to their homeland. The colors of the flags of Crimea and Simferopol are identical to the tricolor, and the spirit in the city has always been Russian. Maybe because the coat of arms is so calm, non-aggressive?
