The actors are "Elementary": Johnny Lee Miller, Lucy Lew, Aidan Quinn and John Michael Hill

In 2009, the movie "Sherlock Holmes" was released. Another screen version of the adventures of the British detective was very popular with everyone and proved that the plot of Conan Doyle is still capable of capturing the minds of the audience of the twenty-first century. On the wave of popularity in the United Kingdom was launched the series "Sherlock", in which the adventures of the detective are adapted to the present. This project has also succeeded.

A few years later, the US television offered the audience its own version of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes in the twenty-first century, but moved the scene to New York and titled the television series Elementary.

What is the series "Elementary"?

As in all the screen versions of the stories about Sherlock Holmes, in the series "Elementary" the main character was this brilliant British detective. However, the creator of the project decided to transform his image, as it was said in the slogan of the series "New Holmes, new Watson, New York".

In addition to outstanding intelligence and observation, the new Holmes has a serious drug addiction, which he has to constantly fight. It was because of it that Holmes moved to America, leaving his native London and Scotland Yard.

At the time of Sherlock's acquaintance, Watson (in "Elementary" is a woman named Joan) is the curator for former drug addicts, helping them to adapt to a normal life without drugs. Once upon a time she was a successful surgeon, but because of the death of the patient she left medicine. Becoming the curator of Sherlock, she does not let him get away with all her strength and at the same time helps him in the investigations, and eventually becomes a private detective herself. In addition to investigations, the main characters have to solve a number of ethical problems. It is worth noting that the problem of narco-dependence and the fight against it is one of the central themes of the television series, which distinguishes it from other adaptations.

Johnny Lee Miller - The New Sherlock Holmes

The role of the legendary British detective was entrusted to the true Englishman Johnny Lee Miller. Popularity to the actor came long before this project. Being from a theatrical family, he planned to associate his future with the profession of an actor from childhood. Initially, the career was not very successful, he was often invited to secondary roles, until in 1995 he did not get the main role in the movie "Hackers". This tape has glorified the young actor to the whole world. The next successful film with Miller's participation was a cult film about drug addicts "On the needle", where he played a drug addict named Psih. After Johnny had a period of costumed films, where he played then the robber McLain, the gullible Edmund in the film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Mansfield Park."

At the beginning of the two thousandth he tries his strength in action films and horror films, but he is less invited to the cinema. Therefore, he gradually switches to television. In 2008, with his participation comes the series "Eli Stone", which lasted for two whole seasons. Then follows a series of episodic roles, until in 2012 he gets a role in the series "Elementary." Of course, in many respects the series is inferior to the British "Sherlock", and the actors "Elementary" are not so known to the general public, but Johnny manages to incarnate on his own screen an image of Sherlock Holmes that can not be compared to anyone. It is worth noting that Johnny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch (Holmes singer in the series "Sherlock") together participated in the theatrical production of "Frankenstein" and together won the Laurence Olivier prize for this work.

Lucy Lew: The New Generation Watson

Prior to the "Elementary" attempt to turn Watson into a woman was done in two films. This idea became so established that the producers of the new series decided to use it in the new project. The role of resourceful and fearless partner Sherlock Holmes Joan Watson received the American actress Lucy Lew, known to many on the cult film "Kill Bill."

Parents of the future actress originally from Taiwan, but the childhood of Lucy was in New York. It is noteworthy that since her childhood she spoke in Chinese and only before the school began to learn English. After graduation she began to seriously study Asian languages at the University of Michigan.

To shoot Lew began in the early nineties, initially performing episodic roles in popular American television series. In parallel, Lucy tried to act in films. However, a real breakthrough for her was participation in the film "Shanghai Noon", where she performed the role of Princess Pei Pei. In the same year she played one of the "angels" Charlie in the film of the same name, and a few years later returned to this role in his sequel. Lucy managed to attract attention, and she was invited to serious projects. So, she starred in a colorful adaptation of the musical "Chicago", and in 2003 she receives one of the main roles in the film Tarantino "Kill Bill." Her heroine is a former hired killer, and after the head of the yakuza O-Ren Ishii. It is merciless and meanwhile beautiful. The actress managed to create an incredibly memorable and one of the most striking images of the film.

After this role, Lew became a very demanded actress, but unfortunately, she was rarely given the main roles because of the specific type. Not despairing, she began to try herself as an actress of dubbing. So, her voice was spoken by the Viper in "Kung Fu Panda" and Jade in the series "The Adventures of Jackie Chan".

In the series "Elementary", she got so well accustomed to the image of Joan, that the creators of the project from the second season began to give her more screen time, so that many viewers began to get the impression that she, and not Sherlock is the main character.

It is worth noting that the actress plans to try herself as a director, and recently it was announced that the twenty-second series of the fourth season of the series "Elementary" will be filmed under Lucy, who will direct this episode.

Aidan Quinn - Inspector Gregson

Artist of the role of Captain Gregson - Aidan (Aidan) Quinn is an American, but his parents are from Ireland, so you can say that he is also almost an Irishman. Unlike the book, in the series Thomas Gregson is a full-blooded American who met Holmes during his work in London.

The actor, who plays the role of captain, despite his American origin, is better known for lovers of British and Irish cinema. His career began in the mid-eighties. At first he got roles in the episodes, but in 1989 the actor received the main role in the film "Crusoe." Despite Aidan's excellent acting, the film did not become very famous. But the actor himself was often invited to appear, although it was mostly low-budget projects. The next notable breakthrough is the role in the film "Legends of Autumn". After that, the actor gets the glory of the performer of secondary roles. Over the years he has been acting in films and on television. Unfortunately, most of his films were not translated into Russian.

New character in the performance of John Michael Hill

If all the above actors "Elementary" play the role of heroes who were in the original work, then the detective Markus Bell, who often has to deal with Sherlock and Joan, is a new character. He was specially created for the series. John Michael Hill - the performer of this role is the youngest of all the permanent members of the project. Before that, he also acted in detective series. Although while other actors "Elementary" stormed the film industry, John was more into the theater. During his career, he participated in two Shakespeare plays "King Lear" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

It is worth noting that Hill was nominated for various prestigious American theater awards. And although his achievements against the background of the project partners are rather modest, I want to believe that his talent will allow him to break into serious projects.

The series "Elementary" is a pretty good attempt to recreate on the screen the history of Sherlock Holmes, if he lived in our time. For many years the actors "Elementary" continue to please their viewers with a magnificent game. The project also attracts unobtrusive elegant decorations and incredibly interesting crimes using the latest achievements of science and technology. Hopefully, for many years the audience will be able to meet with the favorite characters of the series "Elementary".
