First, warm the car engine to operating temperature. Raise the hood and locate the pipe going from the thermostat to the radiator. If it is hot, then the thermostat works normally. You can determine the efficiency of the pump by opening the expansion tank and starting the engine. If the coolant from the hose coming from the cooling radiator enters it, then the pump is working.

After making sure that the cooling system is working, open the heater cock while the engine is running, so that the coolant can pass through it. After that, lift the hood and look for the inlet and outlet connections of the stove radiator. They both need to be hot. This indicates that the coolant circulates freely in the system. If the outlet pipe is a little warm or cold - the radiator is clogged.

The process of cleaning the radiator is to wash the maximum amount of dirt and oxidation products from it with a jet of water or a special liquid. But before this it is desirable to dissolve the scum, fill the liquid with a liquid cleaner.

Clean the heater in two ways: removing it from the car and without removing it. Each of the methods has its advantages and disadvantages. In the first case, the radiator is dismantled with the crane. Let's start with the fact that you can buy special fluids in car shops for cleaning the cooling system. They are quite effective in their task, but it is better to use proven folk remedies, which you can find even in your own kitchen, than to wash the stove radiator with incomprehensible chemistry, and even for a lot of money. These include:

• milk serum;
• A solution of citric acid;
• Special powders and liquids for cleaning sewage pipes ("Krot", "Silit", "Comet", etc.);
• Popular drinks such as "Coca Cola" or "Phantas";
• Solution of caustic soda.

Choose the right cleaning agent

Given that the heaters are made of copper and aluminum, it is necessary to know exactly what the radiator of the stove can be washed out of these means, and what can not. The fact is that aluminum reacts very quickly with alkali and is instantly oxidized, so it is better not to use alkaline agents to clean products from it.

But then than to rinse the aluminum radiator of the stove, so as not to harm? Only with acid solutions or with whey. The latter, by the way, is the least aggressive, although it takes more time to dissolve the scale. But in our case, it's better to spend a little more time, and be sure that the heater still serves us, than to clean the car's radiator quickly, using the means that can lead to its failure. For copper, on the contrary, more suitable means containing alkali.

Radiator cleaning with removal

Determined, than it is possible to wash out the radiator of the stove of the car, we proceed to the process itself. Regardless of the chosen method, the first step is to drain all the coolant from the system. After that, we dismantle the radiator with the crane. We check the operation of the crane and clean the heater from the outside, removing dirt and dust from its slats. Before rinsing, it is best to disconnect the tap.

Further, we wash the radiator with a stream of water, directing it into one of the nozzles. When the mud stops coming out, seal any heater branch pipe tightly, and in the second fill in the previously prepared solution. And it's better if it's hot. Leave the heat sink for about an hour.

After this time, drain the cleaning agent from the heater and rinse it again with running water. For greater effect, you can use a hose by putting one end on the radiator hose, and the second connecting to the water pipe. Flush until the dirt stops coming out of the heater. How effective the cleaning has been can be determined by blowing it into the connected hose. If the air passes through the radiator channels freely, then we worked for good reason. It remains only to screw the tap and install the heater in place.

How to rinse the radiator of the stove without dismantling it

The principle of cleaning the radiator without dismantling it is similar. Draining the coolant, disconnect the hoses from the heater connections. Here we will additionally require two hoses of suitable length and diameter. They need to be connected to the radiator sockets. The heater valve must be in the open position.

Rinse, of course, better running water. To do this, you can use a water pipe, or some device like a liquid pump. But if you do not have anything at your disposal, we do the washing as follows. One of the hoses connected to the radiator is lowered down and we put some capacity under its end. In the second hose we insert an ordinary watering can and start pouring clean water into it. We spill until the water is clear.

After that, the outlet pipe (hose) is closed, and we pour the prepared cleaning solution into the radiator. After waiting an hour, drain the liquid, and rinse again with water until it is clean at the outlet.

At the end of the procedure, we connect the hoses of the system to the heater and fill the coolant.

Global cleaning

There is another way that will help clean the entire cooling system, together with the radiator. For its implementation, it is necessary to drain the coolant, and replace it with a cleaner. Here, of course, neither soda nor citric acid will do. It is better to use professional remedies or, as a last resort, milk whey.

When the system is filled with a cleaner, start the engine and let it run. The only thing is to monitor the temperature of the engine to prevent it from overheating. When the engine runs for 10-20 minutes, the liquid can be drained off, after which the system must be rinsed with clean water several times on the same principle.

In some cases it is better to use this method of cleaning than to wash the stove radiator separately. It will remove dirt and scale from the entire cooling system.
