Stroke is a silent killer

Strictly speaking, stroke is an acute disorder of cerebral circulation. The first mention of the stroke can be considered descriptions made in the fifth century BC by Hippocrates. The disease was deadly then ... deadly now. The statistics are inexorable: cerebral stroke ranks second in the mortality pattern of the Russian population, second only to myocardial infarction. The stroke is developing very quickly, you can even say - swiftly. Because of the violation of cerebral circulation, nerve cells begin to die, which, of course, does not pass for a person without a trace.

Stroke is ischemic, hemorrhagic and subarachnoid. The first type of stroke predominates, accounting for 70 to 85 percent of all stroke cases. Estimates, of course, vary, but a general idea can be compiled on them. Ischemic stroke develops due to clogging or squeezing of blood vessels due to embolism, thrombosis or a number of cardiovascular diseases. On hemorrhagic stroke account for about 20-25 percent of cases of stroke. The difference of this type from an ischemic stroke is that the vessel is not simply clogged, but bursts and, as a consequence, there is a hemorrhage into the brain, under its membranes or even into the ventricles. And very rarely there is a subarachnoid stroke, only in 1-7 cases out of a hundred. This stroke, by and large, is traumatic, and it occurs either because of a craniocerebral trauma, or because of a rupture of the arterial aneurysm, after which a cerebral hemorrhage also occurs.

Three types of stroke differ among themselves and mortality levels. So, with ischemic stroke , the mortality value, according to statistics, does not exceed 15 percent. Alas, neither hemorrhagic nor subarachnoid stroke can boast such "peace", killing up to 33% and, correspondingly, up to 50% of patients.

Like any other pathological condition, stroke is associated with certain risk factors, including age (over 50) and gender (male), chronic heart disease and arterial hypertension, transient ischemic attacks, and work associated with high neural congestion, and Bad habits, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, asymptomatic stenosis of the carotid arteries and the presence of a stroke in direct relatives. Well, if we are talking about Russia, then it is also necessary to classify risk factors as ... emergency hospitalization. It's not a secret for anyone that the fast are often ... late. Emergency hospitalization of patients with stroke does not exceed 30% of all cases. Add to this the fact that in our hospitals there are often no properly equipped intensive care rooms, and rehabilitation programs are ignored and we will get a disappointing conclusion - a stroke is dangerous. Seriously dangerous.

How can we increase the chances of survival - both our own and our close people? You should know a number of simple measures for the initial diagnosis of stroke, which will help to identify signs of a stroke. So, if you think someone has just had a stroke, ask the person to perform a number of simple actions, namely: close your eyes and stretch your hands in front of you with your hands up, then raise both hands over your head, then stick your tongue out, then smile And, finally, to utter a simple sentence. When the stroke: hands will go in the side or down, will not rise to the same height, the tongue will fall to the side, the smile will turn out to be a curve, and the diction and articulation will deteriorate noticeably. If the terrible suspicions are confirmed - rather call an ambulance and insist on immediate hospitalization. Treatment of a stroke does not suffer procrastination!
