Sports car Bugatti EB110: description, bundle

Bugatti EB110 is a truly legendary car. He is powerful, not ordinary and already quite "grown-up". He appeared in the late 80's. And this car was completely different from other cars of the brand.

A bit of history

So, introduced a brand new "Bugatti" to the world in 1990 in Paris. The name that was given to him was given in honor of a landmark date. Namely 110-year anniversary of the birth of the greatest man - Ettore Bugatti, the founder of the company.

The overall layout of this machine was developed by Paolo Stanzani, who at that time was the technical director of the company. The design was handled by Marcello Gandini. However, the chief financier of the project was dissatisfied with the fact that the appearance of the car is very similar to the model of "Lamborghini." But Gandini did not agree to rework the design. So he was removed from this work and appointed in his place Gianpaolo Bendini.

Technical part

It should be noted that for the Bugatti EB110 a completely new engine was developed. His creation was handled by Nicola Materazzi. It was a V-shaped 12-cylinder engine, the volume of which was limited to 3.5 liters. It is interesting that the same volume was allocated to the aggregates of cars participating in the Formula-1. Thanks to four turbines this engine produced power of 560 "horses". And the maximum that the car could reach was 336 kilometers per hour.

The engine block was made of aluminum. In general, the designers managed to achieve a low compression ratio. Brakes for the Bugatti EB110 were designed by Bosch. And the automotive concern decided to improve their design later. Specialists of the concern equipped the brakes with ABS (with ventilation).

Testing

All units and components of the Bugatti EB110 were strictly tested for reliability and quality. Motors, for example, passed tests on the dynamometer bench. At the same time, the turnover was 95 percent of the maximum. And so - for 300 (!) Hours. After 50 thousand kilometers of testing aluminum chassis has lost its rigidity. It decreased by 20 percent. And when it was found out, the rocket-building division called Aerospatiale began to develop a carbon fiber monocoque. Everybody knows how light and durable this material is. It is much more reliable than aluminum, but it weighs less.

The monocoque is designed to carry the all-wheel-drive system and gearbox, which is located in front of the engine and is connected by a cardan with a front-wheel differential. It is interesting that the transmission was developed jointly with the specialists of Porsche.

Twelve prototypes were used in the tests, and responsibility for the test work was laid on the shoulders of Jean-Philippe Vitekok and Loris Bicocci. Still there is an interesting fact - Michelin made specially for the Bugatti EB110 tires that can withstand more than 300 km / h, and winter tires.

Construction and other features

Interestingly, this sports car has a body made of aluminum panels on a carbon-fiber spatial frame. A door type "guillotine" became a real business card of this model. The engine was decided to be put on display through the glass-covered surface of the hood. In the rear part you see a large wing, which itself is pulled out if the car is moving at high speed. Although it can be activated more by pressing the corresponding button in the cabin.

Special attention should be paid to the driver's seat. It looks like an airplane cockpit. The armchair is so comfortable that it seems as if it envelops the driver, so that convenient access to all controls is possible.

It is worth noting the fact that exclusively for this model Elf Aquitaine has developed a special mechanical lubricant, which has increased lubricating properties and a unique ability to completely decompose. And the development of the advanced multimedia system was handled by Nakamichi specialists. Another commitment was made to every car for full technical support for three years. And it was not just a guarantee. Another machine was provided with a systematic update of all systems and components, as well as the replacement of consumables.

Further production

This car has become very popular. A sports car with high arched doors, a luxurious salon trimmed with leather and walnut wood, could not help but conquer the hearts of people who value rich models. Inside, attention was drawn not only to the design, but also to the impressive dimensions of the instrument panel with a clock, air conditioning, CD-tape recorder and a special function of electrical programming of the reference surface.

In 1991, the light went Bugatti EB110 GT. This machine differed little from the basic modification. Changes were visible in the interior. More developers have improved the power unit. The engine had the same volume (3.5 liters), but its power increased to 559 liters. from. And the speed maximum became higher. The car in the GT package could accelerate to 344 kilometers per hour! This incredible feature made the model the fastest car in the world, produced serially.

The version of "Supersport"

In 1992, the light came out the "Bugatti" model in yet another unique complete set. The car became known as the Bugatti EB110 SS. The last two letters, as could already be guessed, meant "Supersport". Under the hood of this incredible car was a 610-horsepower engine, thanks to which the car could accelerate to a maximum of 351 km / h! This model was a frequent participant in various sports. And success, of course, she managed to achieve considerable. It is interesting that in 1994, Michael Schumacher acquired such a model. He did not plan. Simply, the rider swept on this model during a test drive, organized by a German magazine, and he liked it so much that he decided to buy it.

The SS version was the best of the best. However, unfortunately, this sports car did not have a promising future. In total, the EB 110 was able to produce 150 pieces. And in the mid-nineties, the project was doomed, as demand for cars fell monthly. And in 1995, as is known, the firm "Bugatti" announced that they are now bankrupt.

Cost

And of course, you can not say how much the Bugatti EB 110 costs. The price of this car can not be small - and it's easy to understand, taking into account the characteristics. For example, not so long ago at an auction in a city called Scottsdale (USA, Arizona) this car was sold for 775 thousand dollars. And this, according to the current exchange rate, is approximately 50 250 000 rubles! True, the car was in perfect condition. Despite a very solid "age" - as much as 22 years, the run of the model was only 8,235 kilometers. The car with a 550-horsepower engine was stored in excellent conditions, so the price was also asked for.

Collapse of the company

As could be understood, the Bugatti EB 110's car specifications are quite impressive. And it was known only by fans of cars of the nineties. Success was phenomenal. In 1995, it became known to the world that Romano Arthioli had decided to supplement the model line with a luxury sedan - a follower of the EB 110. This car would have become known as the EB 112. Arthioli also bought Lotus, which was famous for its engineers. However, the development of the novelty and the acquisition of the company dragged the concern into a swamp of debts. As a result, the project turned out to be an adventure. This is what caused the enchanting bankruptcy of the concern. After that, all the rights to manufacture and documentation (together with half-made EB 110) was bought by Dauer Racing GmbH. And in the 2000s, as is known, the Volkswagen concern took over the firm, which continued production of Bugatti cars. By the way, the well-known model "Veyron" (Veyron) took a lot from the legendary EB 110.
