Specialty - what is it? What is the difference between a bachelor's degree, a specialty and a master's degree?

Students in recent years have a difficult choice. They can give preference to undergraduate programs and specialty programs. However, more recently, everything was much easier. After graduation, all graduates automatically received a degree of specialist. After the Ministry of Education issued a decree on the adoption of the Bologna system, the students stood up not at a crossroads, because they did not know what to choose: a specialty or a bachelor's degree? After all, the Bologna education system includes several stages: specialization, bachelor's degree, master's degree. About these forms of education and will be discussed in the article.

Specialty - what is it?

This is a form of training familiar to Russian reality. After the institute or university, the former student is fully prepared to work in any particular industry. Graduated specialists are trained for at least five years, receiving both basic and advanced knowledge in a directed specialty. The qualification of a specialist is assigned only to the field of how the student will write and defend the thesis work, which can only be accepted by the state attestation commission.

So, we will summarize. Specialty - what is it? And this is a five-year form of training, after which the graduate becomes a high-class specialist. He can claim for independent and high positions, having received such an education. Specialty gives confidence to the person in the forces. Unlike undergraduate, receiving education in the form of a specialty, a graduate who graduated from a university is fully ready for work.

Disadvantages of the diploma of a specialist

Despite the fact that the diploma of a specialist has its advantages, there are a number of disadvantages, which are presented below.

  • Graduates with a diploma after a specialty are difficult to continue their studies, as well as find a job outside of our state. Specialty - what is it? This question is asked by Europeans, since they have adopted a two-tiered system of education: only education in the forms of undergraduate and graduate programs. They do not need medium-level skills.
  • In connection with the transition to the Bologna education system, the diploma of a specialist and a bachelor's degree are equated.

Benefits

Let's look at the advantages of having a specialty. Every citizen of our country knows what it is, but not everyone understands what advantages such education gives.

  • Prestige before the employer. Although the Ministry of Education and believes that the difference between a specialist and a bachelor is very small, in fact it is difficult to fit the five-year form of training within the framework of four years.
  • The specialty is much more convenient for those who are going to pursue a scientific career, since after the termination of this form of training it is possible to enter immediately to graduate school.
  • Training in a magistracy after a specialty is a second higher education.

What is a bachelor degree?

In 1996, a bachelor's degree was introduced. Graduates who graduated from the university in this form of education have a professional education in the chosen qualification. After completing this form of training, it is not necessary to enter the magistracy immediately. You can do this later, because the law allows you to work on the specialty with a bachelor's degree.

The changes that have occurred in the qualification of the "specialist" in 2014 surprised many. The diploma of the bachelor and the specialist was equated, as the Ministry of Education considered it more correct to switch to the Bologna system of education, as in Europe.

Bachelor's Advantages

  • Abroad graduates of the bachelor's degree can study for less than four years, and more. It all depends on the direction of schooling.
  • The possibility of obtaining a second education after a bachelor's degree, if a person decided to enter a master's program in another specialty.
  • You can apply for a master's degree after a bachelor in another university, even abroad.

Disadvantages of a Bachelor's Degree

  • A small demand due to outdated foundations. Employers are used to the fact that bachelor's degree is an unfinished higher education, and therefore they consider that bachelors are significantly inferior to specialists.
  • Reduction of free places in the magistracy in connection with the transition to a two-tier education system. Now the competition for budget places after the bachelor's program for a master's degree has become much more stringent.

Difference of the specialty from undergraduate

The main difference between the specialty and the bachelor's degree is that specialists leave the educational institution with a higher level of knowledge, in contrast to bachelors. The latter study mainly general subjects. They lay the foundation for their future activity, and specialists are trained specifically in their specialties.

There is also a difference between the specialty and the bachelor's degree in the number of years required for training: bachelors study at least four years, and specialists - at least five years. After completing the undergraduate student can enter immediately to the magistracy, and after receiving a diploma of a specialist - in graduate school.

What is a magistracy?

Master's degree is the second stage of higher education, which allows you to deepen your specialization in a professional direction. Training for a master's degree takes two years. Here, students are prepared for scientific research activities, as well as for work that will subsequently require design and analytical skills. You can apply for a master's degree both after a bachelor's degree and after a specialty. The right to participate in the competition is granted to both levels of education. They can be trained on a master's degree either on a budgetary basis or on a paid one. But in connection with the tightening of the competition and the reduction in the number of budget places to enter the free seat is extremely difficult.

Do not assume that you must necessarily enter the Master's program immediately after graduating from the Bachelor's or Specialty. This can be done at will. Also it is possible, entering the magistracy, to change the specialty, if there is a desire. In this case, the end of the university will be equated to the second higher education.

Conclusion

Master after specialty - does this make sense? This everyone must decide for himself. After the specialty, you can enter graduate school and move on in a scientific degree, so the master's degree does not play a big role. But why? And because, after applying for a master's degree program, the student loses at least one year. And after the introduction of a two-level education system, you can apply for a master's degree after graduating from the bachelor's degree.

So what to choose - a specialty or a bachelor's program with a master's degree? What is better - a master's degree after a specialty or a master's degree after a bachelor's degree? It is impossible to answer these questions unequivocally, since all systems have both advantages and disadvantages that need to be taken into account. To date, both systems have the same demand among students.
