Sovjep - what is it and how does the name decrypt

The times of the Soviets are separated from us by a considerable time interval. Despite the contradictory assessments of this time by contemporaries, it remains one of the most significant factors in the development of our modern history. But to name the time frame in which there was a Soviets, what it was in time - maybe not everyone.

Etymology of the name

According to the directories of the Soviets, this is the abbreviated name of one of the local self-government bodies created in the first years of the existence of Soviet power. They were created electively from representatives of the local population - deputies. Officially they were called "Soviets of People's Deputies". The first such council earned in the midst of the civil war - in June 1918. And after the end of hostilities such councils became ubiquitous. Thus, 1918 was the date of birth not only of the RSFSR, but also of the term "Sovdep".

At that time, cutbacks were an integral part of life. People willingly created various abbreviations, short forms of long denominations have firmly entered the young Soviet life. So there were "sovnarkom", "collective farm", "sovdep" ... What is it, it was not necessary to explain - since 1918 these magazines were full of magazines, they were pouring from loudspeakers, they were used in official and colloquial speech. The ubiquitous use of this term has become firmly established in the Russian language.

Council of Foreign Countries

Everyone knew what sovdep means. Although the attitude towards the new state was developing in different ways. The transformation of the RSFSR into the USSR, the gradual establishment of the relations of the young republic with other countries, the use of various foreign policy levers gradually raised the reputation of the USSR. On the other hand, there were many people who found themselves on the other side of the barricade. In the emigre newspapers published in Brussels, Paris or Berlin, the speech of the former White Guards and expelled representatives of the ruling classes also sounded the word "Sovdep". What did this concept mean for an expatriate? Criminal power that took his homeland, family, land and quite significant fortunes.
Many people emigrated for ideological reasons or because of fears for their own lives. Therefore it is not surprising that this concept is always used with a negative or disdainful tone and gradually replaces in the emigrant circles the words "Russia" or "RSFSR". And the words "Sovdep" and "Sovdepia" became synonyms for the country of the Soviets.

Sovdep in the 70-90s

Gradual decline in the development of industry drove the economy of the USSR into a deaf corner. The quality of food, clothing, household goods and other goods manufactured in the USSR left much to be desired.

There is another usage of the concept "Soviets". What does this word mean? Low quality goods, unsatisfactory services, constantly breaking technique. From the category of goods, the word gradually grew into the sphere of human relations. The word "sovdep" was used to refer to a hamovat, impudent and uncultured person who does not respect the generally accepted cultural values. In this sense, this word migrated into the modern lexicon.
