Slavonic God Horse: who is he and how is the dance related to him?

Pre-Christian ideas about the creation of the world, about the essence of being and the meaning of human life are based on myths and legends, described in detail in ancient treatises. The basis of beliefs of our ancestors was the worship and spiritualization of the forces of nature, the veneration of powerful ancestors, the belief in the presence of supernatural forces in human life. Much attention was paid to the magical rites, the worship of idols, sacrifices and traditional feasts. All this was meant to help negotiate with the higher powers, cajole them and "lure" them to the side of people.

Deities

Before the baptism of Rus, all the people in our land were pagans. Therefore, there are a lot of deities in Slavic mythology . The main gods of the Slavic pantheon include:

  • God of thunder and warriors is Perun;
  • God of the world of the otherworld and patron of livestock - Veles;
  • The God of heaven is Stribog;
  • The goddess of manual female labor (sewing, weaving) - Mokosh;
  • Gods of the sun - Kolyada, Dazhbog, Yarila, God Horse.

Depending on the place of residence of the Slavic people, the number of revered deities can differ significantly. God Hors (Horos, Horseth), for example, does not appear in all sources.

Idols

Archaeological and written sources testify to the existence of Slavs idols - wooden, stone, metal images of the gods. God Hors, for example, was often portrayed as a bearded man in a helmet, with a symbol of the sun - a whirlpool in his hands.

Worship idols occurred in open sanctuaries - often in forests. Kapischa - a kind of arbor - arranged on the glades, fenced the place with a fence and in the middle of the required bred a fireplace.

In addition to the deities, the Slavs worshiped stones, rivers, marshes, lakes, springs from the ground with springs with spring water, as well as the sun, the moon and the stars.

God Horse of the Slavs

This deity is the keeper of solar heat and light. But on the Russian land there were simultaneously four Gods related to the sun: Kolyada, Dazhdbog, Yarila and God Horse (Cors). What is the difference?

  • Kolyada is the sun god of winter or evening. This deity is dedicated to winter fortune telling, songs and games - carols.
  • Dazhdbog personifies the light of the sky, it resists the forces of Navi (Darkness). Its symbol is the white light, which always exists, even in cloudy and gloomy weather. Its time of year is summer. And the time of day is day.
  • Jarilo is rather a spring, morning God, or even a ritual character. It symbolizes the future fertility and the end of winter - Shrovetide.
  • God Horse of the ancient Slavs, according to myths, was the brother of Veles and the son of Rhoda. He is the patron of yellow, golden sunlight, the sun of autumn and night. It is with his character that the movement of the Sun over the sky is most connected.

Horsa Day is considered to be Sunday, and also the day of the autumn solstice, which falls on the end of September. Metal - blackened silver. The tree of the powerful God is maple, it is called to help people to find calmness, restraint.

Horse in myths and legends never appears alone, he, like the sun without day, can not be without Dazhdbog. In addition to light and sun heat, a good rain is also needed for the harvest. And then Perun will come to the rescue with his storm clouds and the wind master Stribog.

How Horses Looks

According to ancient traditions, this deity is depicted in human form. He is a bearded, rosy-cheeked man of about 35, who always smiles very reservedly. He is dressed in cool clothes: it is always a shirt, a raincoat and pants, sometimes a helmet. In his hands, on his head or in the sky, Heavenly Sunshine is depicted, or the ancient language symbol of the sun - the calf.

Origin of the word round dance

Strangely enough, many words in our language do not appear at all by chance. Etymology maintains that the origin of most words in the Russian language is of particular importance. Here also God Hors (the Slavs), the photo of which is represented below, became the "progenitor" of such words as "good", "good", "chorus", "mansion", "round dance", "ring", "wheel" and others.

The thing is that the roots of "horo" (or "colo"), which earlier denote the "solar disk", are directly related to the concept of "circle", "circle". And all the words derived from this root are related to the circle. Horomy is a circular building. The word "good" in Rus was synonymous with the words round, well-fed. A famous ritual dance - round dance, as everyone knows, is the movement of people in a circle.

Also on behalf of the god Hors, the names of such words as "bell", "colobok", "stake", "about" and "colt" (the most famous pagan symbol and amulet representing the movement of the sun in a circle) occurred.

God Horse. What was he praying about?

During the ceremonies dedicated to this deity, merry mass festivities took place, dances and games, always bred a big bonfire, in winter they swam in the ice hole and performed sacrifices. No, it's not the bloody murders of people and animals that the Christians like to attribute to the ancient Slavs and paganism in general. Sacrifices consisted of a variety of dishes, baked goods and a small portion of the newly harvested crop. One of the traditional dishes of these holidays was a round pie, which was called khoroshul.

This solar deity was prayed for help in agriculture, forging, good harvest and clear weather. Horsa was asked to calm the blizzards and snowfalls, to give strength to fight the evil forces from Navi.

The Dark Incarnation

Opposing the God of the autumn sun is the Dark Horse. This is a creation of evil, which, although clearly weaker than a good double, yet still brings people such misfortunes as snow avalanches, drifts, snowstorms and severe frosts. It was believed that the winter attacks of the Evil Deity would be saved by an amulet with an image of the swastika symbols, a prayer to an idol and indulgence of the spirit by delicacies.
