Self-timer flash diffuser

After buying a good camera and lens, many photographers feel the need to purchase additional light sources. That is - outbreaks. Since the camera flash even the most modern SLRs has very serious drawbacks: it does not allow to regulate the direction and intensity of light, does not allow for creativity. External outbreaks are good in all respects. They are compact, by the nature of light and temperature are similar to sunlight, allow you to adjust the power. When choosing the first flash, you should pay attention to the models with a swivel head. And, of course, you will need a diffuser for the flash. It allows you to control the distribution of light. Note that the larger the area of the working surface of the diffuser, the softer the light. For ease of use, you will need a mobile design that does not take up much space and will easily expand. Consider how you can make a diffuser for a flash with your own hands.

Source materials

For work you will need a thin A4 file of flexible and dense white plastic, as well as a textile velcro with a width of about two centimeters with an adhesive layer. You can buy it in a store selling curtains or cornices. You need only 25-30 cm. And, of course, you should stock up with scissors, ruler, pencil, paper.

Lopushok Diffuser

Such a diffuser for a flash is made very simply. A trapezoid traced on the sheet of paper is approximately the following sizes: narrow side - 65 mm, wide side - 160 mm, height - 125 mm. If desired, you can change the dimensions (depending on the flash model and your requirements). From below, the side of Velcro with hooks is glued to the "crochet". The soft side of the Velcro fastens to the flash along the perimeter from all sides. This will make it possible to mount a self-made diffuser in any positions. Note that before gluing the Velcro, degrease the surface with alcohol. Aggressive solvents for this purpose are better not to use, as they can ruin the plastic. With all the external simplicity, such a diffuser for a flash gives a lot of room for creativity. You can safely bend the structure and position it in different positions. This will direct the light not only to the ceiling, but also forward, to the side, at an angle (without fear of getting a hard light and completely "kill" the black and white picture on the face of the models).

Diffuser type "bouncer"

In the event that there is no wall or ceiling to scatter light nearby, you will need a more sophisticated reflector design. For example, it can be a "bouncer", which looks like this.

Such a reflector is less flexible, but will become indispensable if there are no reflection surfaces where a stream of light could be directed. Note that the diffuser for a Canon or Nikon flash , in fact, does not differ from each other. The design is easy to fold and easily fit into the pocket of the bag. Fastening is carried out with the help of all the same Velcro. Therefore (depending on the shooting conditions), you can use a diffuser for a "bouncer" or "lupushok" flash.
