Self-installing the video card

Have you thought about how to independently improve the refrigerator or washing machine? For example, replace the compressor with a more efficient one, increase the radiator area or correct the shape of the drum. Almost certainly, no. After all, these items, although they consist of separate components, absolutely do not provide for the possibility of modernization. Even with a breakdown, the replacement is made for similar types of parts. Actually, sometimes the instruction clearly states that interference in the design deprives the owner of the warranty obligations on the part of the manufacturer. A completely opposite situation has developed in the field of computer technology. Here, not only is it possible to replace the components of a personal computer on its own, but is also encouraged in every way. For example, installing a video card is so commonplace that in some cases there are even no retention bolts (instead of them special plastic clips are used). However, portable computers also allow upgrading. So, installing a video card in a laptop even for an unprepared user takes no more than ten minutes. True, this is without taking into account the time of disassembly.

Currently, the society has a tendency to gradually give up full-fledged personal computers in favor of laptops. Indeed, modern portable models completely cope with the everyday tasks of the average user. That's why installing a video card into a desktop personal computer is of interest to many only theoretically. Being able to perform such an operation, a person can easily cope with the replacement in a laptop.

The video card can be installed from scratch, when the video adapter is not connected to the motherboard, and as a replacement, including the removal of the old model and integration into the new system. There are no special nuances. Direct installation of the video card in both cases is carried out according to a single scheme.

The main rule is that the computer's power should be turned off, the network cords of the system unit and the monitor should be removed from the sockets. In laptops, you must remove the battery.

The procedure is as follows:

- Remove the side cover of the case, providing access to the components of the computer (if it is assembled).

- Video cards differ in the type of interface used - it can be PCI, AGP, PCI-Express. They have connectors with sliding contacts. They are incompatible with each other, so you can not mix and paste, for example, an AGP card in PCI is impossible. The type of interface is specified in the specification for the card.

- We find on the motherboard the appropriate connector (slot).

- Gently insert the video card into it with a "comb" of sliding contacts. First one side, then the other.

- Fix the bar of the card with a screw or latch (depending on the case). On the outside, we connect the monitor cord to the output of the video adapter.

Turn on the computer. After downloading, you need to install the graphics card driver. This control program can be downloaded from the site of the developer of the graphics adapter or found on the disk that comes with the card.
