Seas of Russia: list in alphabetical order

The territory of the Russian Federation is washed by three oceans. All the seas of Russia, the list of which is given in the text of the article, are interesting and special in their own way. All of them are unique and original.

Sea of Russia: List

The largest country on the planet is connected with three oceans through 12 seas, both internal and marginal. One sea of Russia has no direct connection with the World Ocean (except for the connection through the Volga-Don Canal) - this is the Caspian Sea, which is without drainage.

Atlantic Seas

The seas from the Atlantic Ocean basin are fighting against the western shores of Russia. From the north it is the Baltic Sea, in the south - the Azov and the Black. They are united by such features:

  • All of them are internal, that is, deeply continental;
  • All of them - the final seas of the Atlantic, that is, east of them, or the waters of another ocean, or land.

The coastline of Russia along the Atlantic seas is about 900 km. The Baltic Sea area covers the Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions. The Black and Azov Seas wash the shores of the Rostov Region, the Krasnodar Territory and the Crimea.

Sea of the Arctic Ocean

Some of the seas of Russia (listed above) belong to the basin of the Arctic Ocean. There are six of them: five of them are marginal (Chukchi, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Barents) and one internal (White). Almost all of them are covered with ice throughout the year. Due to the Atlantic current the south-west of the Barents Sea does not freeze . The waters of the Arctic Ocean reach the territory of such subjects of Russia as the Murmansk Region, the Arkhangelsk Region, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, the Taimyr Autonomous District, the Republic of Sakha, the Chukotka Autonomous District.

Sea of the Pacific

The list of the seas washing the shores of Russia from the east and relating to the Pacific Ocean is given below:

  • Beringovo;
  • Japanese;
  • The Okhotsk.

To the seas adjoins the territories of Chukotka Autonomous District, Magadan Region, Kamchatka Region, Khabarovsk Territory, Sakhalin Region, Primorsky Territory.

Warm seas

Half of the Russian seas all year round are covered with ice. There are seas that are partially covered by ice crust for a certain period of time. The warm seas of Russia, listed below, do not freeze during the year. So, to the warm seas of Russia are:

  • Black;
  • The Caspian;
  • The Azov.

Sea of Russia: a list of unique seas

All geographical objects of the Earth are special and interesting in their own way. On the territory of Russia there are objects that are unique and unrepeatable. The Azov It is considered the most inland sea of the planet. The connection with the waters of the World Ocean occurs through four straits and four seas. Having a depth of not more than 13.5 m, it is recognized as the smallest sea on the planet.
The Baltic

It is one of the most "unsalted" seas in the world.

Barents

This is the westernmost sea of Russia from those that are beyond the Arctic Circle. It is considered the purest sea of all that is washed by the shores of Europe.

White The sea, which has a small area, is the second after Russia's Sea of Azov. Washes the land of the historical and cultural monument of Russia - the Solovetsky Islands.
Beringovo

The biggest sea washing Russia.

East Siberian

Recognized as the coldest sea on the planet.

Caspian

The biggest drainless sea in the world.

Laptev

On the islands of this sea are regularly found the remains of mammoths.

Okhotsk

At the bottom of this sea found organisms that do not need the energy of the Sun.

Black

The water mass of this sea is 87% lifeless because of the presence of a thick deep-water layer of hydrogen sulfide, where only bacteria live.

Chukchi

The only sea in Russia, along which the line of the date changes.

Japanese

The southernmost, however not the hottest sea in Russia. Of all the seas of Russia, this one has the richest underwater world.
