Rules for the installation of road signs

The rules for the installation of road signs are regulated by GOST R 52289-2004. According to this normative document, when selecting the location of the required index, a number of factors should be taken into account. These include:

- the orientation of the information reflected on the signal;

- visual review in the area of the sign;

- speed, as well as traffic intensity in this area.

Depending on the degree of significance of the warning signal, the rules for installing road signs regulate the distance at which pointers should be located.

The driver must receive visual information, evaluate its contents and have time to perform the necessary actions to drive the vehicle.

Signs belonging to the category of warning, are mainly installed in places located in the interval of one hundred and fifty to three hundred meters from the beginning of the site, which is considered dangerous. In settlements, this gap ranges from fifty to one hundred meters, due to the lower speed of cars.

All existing prescriptive and prohibitory signs, as well as priority indications, are compulsorily located in places located in close proximity to those areas where various restrictions are introduced or the order of the traffic is changed.

If there is a need to install information, service or prescriptive pointers, then the place for them is the immediate point in front of the object, as well as the beginning of the path segment (if it has characteristic displacement conditions). In advance, stipulates the standard, it is necessary to have signs that serve for preliminary notification of directions.

There are different zones of the pointer. Signs of a warning character give information about the most dangerous period of traffic, the length of which is determined by the driver independently. If this is difficult to do, then it becomes necessary to set up an information pointer for the coverage zone.

Prescriptive and prohibitory signs introduce certain restrictions. They need to adhere to the intersection, which on the route will be the closest. In the absence of road intersections, the driver should limit his actions to driving until he leaves the village.

The rules for installing road signs provide for a reduction in the coverage of pointers. This is done by the appropriate plates. Increase of zones of action of signs is made by their repetition after each crossing of roads. The first pointer is the main one. Dislocation of traffic signs, the same name with the original, is made during the movement of vehicles on the right side. The need for repeating pointers is important when their coverage is located at an existing intersection. The installation of such signs can be made both before the intersection of roads and after it, depending on the information contained in them.

Rules for the installation of road signs also regulate the cases of their joint application. In practice, there are often situations where placing one pointer is not sufficient to ensure safety while driving cars. For the adoption of timely measures for driving a vehicle, an additional sign or an entire group thereof is installed. It is important for drivers, for example, to know about priorities in traffic, about moving vehicles along the road only to one side, and about reserving a strip for carrying out public routes. Employees of road services, as well as the UMEL, are obliged to perform a periodic check of the visibility of signposts.

For those who install traffic signs on their own, the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation provides for strict penalties. All signs, posters and other objects must stand in places that are coordinated with the relevant state authorities.
