Repellent is a necessary attribute in the summer

In the spring, blood-sucking insects begin to multiply massively, they do not let you rest easy and enjoy nature. The drug, which scares them off, is called "repellent". This substance does not kill parasites, but drives them away. Apply it in gardens, fields, forests from midges, mosquitoes, flies, ticks, fleas.

Appearance and application

Previously, for the repulsion of the nest, the smoke of fires was applied, fumigated rooms with candles with wormwood and clove oil. On the skin were applied oils - camphor, eucalyptus, clove, juniper, fir, nutmeg, cedar, lavender. And then they invented a synthetic repellent. It was a breakthrough, because all gardeners, mushroom pickers, hunters found salvation in it. Repellents are applied to the skin, they are sprayed with clothes, mosquitoes, canopies, curtains, nets, as well as the outer part of the tent to limit the flight of mosquitoes.

Composition

Preparations are currently produced in the form of lotions, creams, gels, aerosols, emulsions, pencils. The composition contains the main substances (DETA), essential oils (pine, lavender, clove, geranium) and additives that have repelling properties and prolong the action of the preparations. Oils act weakly and are added to enhance the effect.

The repellent cream is based on diethyltoluamide - a chemical compound that paralyzes the nervous system of mosquitoes, midges, and nematodes. It has a sharp odor and has a high toxicity, so children and allergic people can not use it. In addition to diethyltoluamide, in preparations can be used:

  1. Permethrin - has a paralytic effect on insects, applied to clothing, equipment, shoes. It is stored on clothes even after washing. Do not use for pregnant women and children up to a year.
  2. Picardin is an analog of DETA, but has a prolonged effect. Spray-repellent based on picaridin does not cause irritation on the skin, but is dangerous if swallowed and gets into the eyes.
  3. Allletrin - a substitute for natural repellent, contained in the flowers of chrysanthemum. Has no smell, protects not only the person, but also the territory around it. Harmless to humans, but unpleasant by insects.

Effectiveness of repellents

The assessment of the funds is made on the following parameters:

  • Force of impact;
  • The number of insect species that are repelled;
  • time of action;
  • smell;
  • Safety for humans and animals;
  • Duration of storage.

The parameter "time of action" is not always the same. Repellent - this, as already mentioned above, a drug that repels insects. Consequently, it absorbs into the skin, comes out with sweat, so only by experimentation can you set the duration of the scaring effect.

It should be remembered that:

  1. There are repellent soft (valid 2 hours), medium (3-4 hours) and the highest category (5 hours). The longer the effect, the greater the toxicity of the agent.
  2. Repellent is a potent chemical, so it must go through a certification commission.
  3. The action of repellents depends on the person's thermoregulation, climatic conditions (heat, rain).

Synthetic drugs do help fight parasites, but their action is associated with the paralysis of the nervous system of insects. In small doses, the remedies are safe for humans, but one must be extremely cautious: the repellent should not get into the eyes or mouth. This is especially true for young children.
