Red oak tree - a bright tree

Red oak (Quercus rubra) is not a very tall tree with a conical crown. Usually does not exceed a height of more than twenty meters. The branches are rather rare, the leaves are dark green, in autumn they are painted in a bright crimson color. In landscape design it is used separately from other trees. Transplant the red oak if it has not yet reached two meters. Otherwise, the plant will be very sick. The birthplace of this oak is Canada. In the early twentieth century, it began to be planted everywhere in Eastern Europe for gardening. But this decorative tree can pose a serious threat to Aboriginal plants. After all, red oak is much more unpretentious than other plants, its seeds are quickly spread by animals. So very soon he began to displace European species of trees and thereby damage forestry.

Red oak. Description

This tree is very durable. If there are favorable conditions, it can live up to two hundred years. It grows quickly, especially the first twenty years. The bark of the young plant is gray and smooth, the older trees are cracked, much darker in color. The trunk of the old specimens reaches one and a half meters in diameter. Young shoots have a rusty color. They are not very long, they darken with age. The leaves of red oak are long (up to twenty-five centimeters) and wide. This tree blossoms with short small earrings, which are gathered in bundles. The fruits are spherical acorns of brown color. In some countries of Europe they are used for food. To taste they look like chestnuts and, if properly prepared, are very hearty and fragrant. In North America, acorns are fattened animals, in particular, pigs. Young trees bear fruit poorly. Red oak is best felt on moderately moist soil, it loves light and reacts badly to strong blackout. It is frost-resistant and slightly susceptible to various diseases. Needs the formation of the crown. In cities, these trees filter the dirty air well and protect the city from noise. They can be landed even in places where there is a strong gas contamination due to transport.

How does red oak propagate?

Leachages from stumps or roots give rise to new trees. Breeders have repeatedly planted holly oak to obtain an even more saturated and beautiful color of the leaves. For example, the variety "Golden" has a small height and a yellow color of the crown. For the landing in cities, the oak must be raised in the nursery. Such small trees can also be purchased for the infield.
