Pridneprovskaya Railway: history, development, main directions

Pridneprovskaya Railway is a transport line that serves the south-eastern part of the Ukrainian territory. In particular, it passes through the Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk regions. The service also extends to parts of the Kherson and Kharkov territories. Until March 2014, this railway structure carried out the tasks of transporting passengers and cargo to Crimea and Sevastopol. Historical background

Its structure began in the distant 1873, November 15. It was on this day that the first passenger train arrived at the station Nizhnedneprovsk (formerly Ekaterinoslav). The starting point was Sinelnikovo. This first train consisted of two cars. Over time, due to the increase in the volume of coal mining in the Donbas, the development of the iron ore basins of Krivoy Rog, and also thanks to the activity of M.O. Pol (a well-known public figure), it was decided to continue building the railways for public funds.

Development in the war years

During the Second World Prydniprovska railway was destroyed almost completely. During the fighting and during the liberation of the territories of Russia from the invaders, the station employees provided transportation services, supplying the front, as well as repair work on the tracks and repair of rolling stock. Thousands of railway workers took part in the military operations, a huge number of them led clandestine activities.

Reconstruction

After the war, active restoration of the objects destroyed by the invaders began throughout the country. The Dnieper railroad was not an exception. It was not only restored, but also reconstructed. Not only the new stations of the Pridneprovskaya Railway were rebuilt, but the station buildings were renovated, and in some areas new ones were built. Large bridges and other various artificial structures were erected. At the same time, the meridional main direction from Art. Lozovaya up to Zaporozhye. Electrification was carried out on all major latitudinal directions and suburban areas. Slightly more than 30% of cargo turnover, thus, remained behind the steam locomotive traction. The rest of these operations are performed by electric. About 85% of the road was equipped with automatic interlocks. More than 95% of the sites are equipped with centralized signals and electric type arrows. In addition to the main ones, new sorting stations were built. These facilities are equipped with modern technical complexes of automation and mechanization. To perform repair work on the roads and maintain the canvas in good condition, high-performance units are used.

Pridneprovskaya Railway today

The total length of the tracks is more than 3250 km. Out of this total, more than 58% are electrified. More than 83% of the tracks are equipped with automatic adjustment systems. The structure includes four directorates for transportation. Transport activity is carried out by 244 stations, 19 of which are precinct, 67 - cargo, 7 - passenger and 4 - sorting. The railways connect the Krivoy Rog Iron-ore basin and the Donbas due to the presence of two latitudinal lines: Pyatikhatki - Verkhovtsevo - Dnepropetrovsk - Sinelnikovo - Chaplino and Timkovo - Krivoy Rog - Apostolovo - Zaporozhye - Kamysh - Zarya. Pridneprovskaya Railway provides maintenance of such large industrial centers as Dneprodzerzhinsk, Nikopol, Pavlograd, Novomoskovsk and others.

Freight turnover

According to reports and statistical data, the activities carried out by the Pridneprovskaya Railway are characterized by a high specific weight of receiving and sending cargo. It should be noted, however, that the turnover of the structure is relatively low as a whole. This is due to the relatively short range of transportation. In general, manganese and iron ore, coke, coal, black metal are transported. As a cargo often serve machines, manufactured goods and equipment, building materials, grain, fluxes.

Passenger Transportation

Until recently, a large number of convoys were transported by citizens from Russia to Ukraine. Very well developed suburban communication. It accounts for more than 85% of all passenger traffic. Reforming

To date, all units of the structure are involved in the implementation of sectoral and government programs for the development of the transport network.
