Population of Togliatti, the history of the city and the economy

Togliatti had every chance to become a typical provincial city, known only to its indigenous inhabitants. But a rich history, one of the largest automobile plants in Russia, a prosperous demographic situation and talented Togliatti people made the city, located directly opposite the Zhiguli Mountains, known not only to all of Russia, but also beyond its borders.

Brief history of the village

Until the twentieth century, Stavropol, as Tolyatti was formerly called, and translated from Greek as "the city of the holy cross," was a very modest settlement. The population of Togliatti in 1920 was only ten thousand inhabitants, which influenced the decision of the authorities to transform Stavropol into a rural settlement.

The second birth the city experienced in the 1950s. In record time, the Soviet authorities erected a hydroelectric power station, an electrotechnical plant, Volgotsemmash, several chemical enterprises and an automobile plant built in conjunction with the Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat. The population of Togliatti began to increase sharply at the expense of young specialists who came to the "new" Volga city in search of stable and highly paid work.

At about the same time, in 1964, Stavropol was renamed. The city received a modern name, when the population of Togliatti reached 123.4 thousand people. Not only industrial enterprises providing work for the newcomers, but also housing estates were actively built. In just fifteen years the population of Togliatti has already exceeded half a million.

Current demographic situation

To date, the city continues to grow. Social protection of the Togliatti population together with statistical agencies report that the city is the only one in the Samara region, where a positive natural increase in population is recorded. For example, in 2013 the number of joyful events related to the birth of a child exceeded the number of mourning events by almost a thousand.

The population of Togliatti for 2017 is 710.5 thousand people, of which about 450,000 are able-bodied to work in Togliatti. The slogan "Togliatti - the city of the young!", Which started appearing in the media a few years ago, seems quite justified, because the average age of a resident of a settlement is 38 years and 4 months. This is lower than in the Samara region or in Russia as a whole.

Administrative-territorial division

The city is divided into three administrative-territorial units: Avtozavodsky District, Central and Komsomolsky. In 2006 Togliatti expanded due to the inclusion of adjacent settlements in the settlement, which became microdistricts or parts of existing districts.

Avtozavodsky district, which Togliatti themselves call New Town or Autograd, includes twenty-six residential quarters. The population of Togliatti, who lives in this territorial unit, is mainly employed at an automobile plant. The number of employees of JSC AVTOVAZ is more than 65 thousand specialists, within the boundaries of Avtozavodsky district there are about 442 thousand inhabitants.

The central district (or Old Town), although it is the administrative center of the city, but much smaller than its "neighbors" - Avtozavodsky and Komsomol. Most of the Old Town is built up by private houses, there are also many sights, cultural and architectural monuments.

Komsomol district (or Komsa) has a total of 120 thousand inhabitants. The territorial unit is valuable, first of all, from a historical point of view. The district literally "tells" about the large-scale construction of a hydroelectric power station in the middle of the twentieth century, and many buildings are dated to the nineteenth century.

Infrastructure of the city

The city, whose population is confidently striving for the millionth mark, has a developed infrastructure. But typical for Tolyatti and two typical problems of most of the Russian settlements:

  • Unsatisfactory performance of housing and communal services and non-stop tariff growth;
  • The poor condition of roads and uncomfortable buildings - many streets are simply not adapted to the passage of a large number of personal vehicles.

Economic situation and industry

Relatively recently Togliatti was one of the most prosperous Russian cities, however, with the global economic crisis, the situation has changed significantly not for the better. Today, Togliatti is unhappy with overstated official statistics, which reports that the average wage in the city is at the level of twenty thousand rubles. Well, though, there is no need to complain about the lack of free vacancies - the employment center of the Togliatti population reports a shortage of workers at the automobile plant.

In addition to the city-forming enterprise, you can get decent work at such industrial facilities:

  1. GM-AVTOVAZ is a joint Russian-American automobile production.
  2. Polad Group of Companies, which produces a wide range of products of the machine-building industry.
  3. "Detailed construction".
  4. "Johnson Control Togliatti" - an enterprise specializing in the production of automobile covers.
  5. "VazInterServis" is a factory that produces components for cars.
  6. "AvtoVAZagregat".
  7. TETS Volzhsky Automobile Plant.
  8. Togliatti thermal power station.
  9. TogliattiAzot is the world's largest ammonia plant.
  10. KuibyshevAzot, which produces mineral fertilizers.
  11. "Togliattikauchuk" is a factory specializing in the production of synthetic rubber.
  12. Food industry: distillery, meat-packing plant, bread-and-milk plant, winery and many other enterprises.

The population of Togliatti attracts a full package of social guarantees, a fixed working day and stability, which are offered to its employees by the above-mentioned enterprises.
