Popular TV shows of the 90s: a list of the best

The era of the 1990s is the history of a whole generation, its growing up and becoming. It is inextricably linked with the cultural side of development. In memory there were dozens of films and serials, on which, in fact, the children of the 90s grew up.

Russian TV series of the 90s

Many of us remember the TV of that time. The series of the 90s (Russians) reflected its specifics, therefore detective projects predominate among them, where there is an active struggle against banditry (Kamenskaya, National Security Agent). 3. "Queen Margot" (1996). The series consists of eighteen episodes. The screen version of the famous novel by Alexander Dumas was attended by leading actors of Russia: Nikolai Karachentsev, Dmitry Pevtsov, Evgeniya Dobrovolskaya and others.
4. "The waiting room" (1998). Ten-part dramatic film about the passengers of the train, forced to make a stop in a small provincial town. Starring Vera Glagoleva, Mikhail Boyarsky, Vyacheslav Tikhonov and others starred.
5. "Simple truths" (1999). In fact, the first Russian series, the target audience of which was modern youth. Narratives of the life of ordinary schoolchildren.

Brazilian series of the 90's: a list

These popular once-in-a-telehistory had several characteristic features. First, the number of series (more than two hundred), which gives the right to call any Brazilian TV series "soap opera". The best series of the 90s of Argentina's production is characterized by the fact that the whole plot is built around one main character. This reflects the name of the series.

1. "Wild Angel" (1998). Serial with Natalia Oreiro in the title role. Describes the fate and love of the orphan Milagros, who grew up in a monastery. In the course of the series, secrets are revealed from the life of Millie's parents.
2. "Antonella" (1992). The role of the protagonist was played by the charming Andrea del Boca. The series includes detective elements, but still the main line is the love line.
3. "Celeste" (1991). A series about a poor girl who works in the house of her rich father, but does not suspect about it. In this film, the themes of homosexuality and AIDS were first raised.
4. "Black Pearl" (1994). The main role was played by the popular Argentine actress Andrea del Boca, who is also the performer of the title track of the series.
5. "Manuela" (1991). The series is based on Carolina Nabukko's novel The Heir. It is noteworthy that many famous musicians took part in the creation of this telenovela (Julio Iglesias, in particular). The series brought tremendous fame to Grecia Colmenares, the performer of the main role.

Series of Venezuela

In general, serials of the 90s (foreign, mostly) are characterized by an intricate plot, a lot of plot lines and characters. Venezuelan serials are not an exception:

1. "Revenge" (1990). He became the first Venezuelan TV series shown on Russian television.
2. "Forbidden Woman" (1991). A series where the main character is torn between two men. Irene can not decide who is more dear to her: Herman or his son Carlos.
3. "Cassandra" (1992). The main role was played by Korayma Torres. The series was shown in one hundred countries of the world.
4. "Only you" (1996). Drama series, raising the problems of unequal marriage and relationships within the family.

Telenovela of Mexico

Mexican series of the 90's became one of the first foreign series, shown on Russian television. They had the same feature as the Argentine ones. All the series of the 90's were tied to the girl - the main character:

1. "Usurpatorsha" (1998). The story of two twin sisters and their brutal and domineering mother.
2. "Wild Rose" (1989). On the Russian screens the series was released in 1994 and immediately became one of the most popular. The main role was played by Veronica Castro, and she did it brilliantly. At the time of filming she was already thirty-five years old, and she played an eighteen-year-old girl, Rosa.
3. "Marisol" (1996). The story of a girl with a disfigured face, vegetating in poverty and not knowing about the rich and kind father who is looking for her.
4. "One day we will grow wings" (1997). Broadcasting was conducted on TVC TV channel (it was repeated three times in different years), according to high ratings during the show it can be judged that this series has become one of the most popular in Russia.
5. "Just Maria" (1990). Became the fourth Mexican TV series shown on Russian television. It is the sixth in a row remake of the original, filmed in Argentina in 1967.

European series

Just a few serials from Europe were able to break into Russian television in the 90s, completely flooded with soap operas of Latin America:

1. "Commissioner Rex" (Austria, Germany, since 1995). The series about the detective Moser and his faithful dog Rex, who loves buns with sausage and easily solves any puzzles.
2. "Poirot" by Agatha Christie (Great Britain, since 1990). Seventy films were filmed about the detective Hercule Poirot. The series has repeatedly been nominated for prestigious television awards in Britain.
3. "Sprut" (Italy, since 1984). The last episode was released in 2001. The series, where Commissioner Cattani fights against the Sicilian mafia almost one on one, has become one of the most popular in Europe.
4. "The First Kisses" (France, 1991-1995). A series about the pupil of the school Justine and her friends. Recalls with the series "Helen and the guys," because the main characters are sisters, according to the idea of the producers.

TV shows USA

Series 90-ies foreign, particularly American, had a broader genre scope, rather than Russian. There were enough "soap operas", and dramas, and comedies, and fiction:

1. "Beverly Hills, 90210" (1990). The last episode of the series about the golden youth of Los Angeles was released in 2000. The television series raises youth and social problems of that time. However, much is actual and now.
2. "Enchanted" (1998). The project lasted eight seasons and was closed only in 2006. The fantasy story of three witch-sisters attracted millions of viewers around the world.
3. "Melrose Place" (1992). He entered the list of the best classical shows, taking the fifty-first place out of a hundred possible.
4. "Love and secrets of Sunset Beach" (1997). Broadcast two years. The series told about the life of young people from California. Ratings began to decline after six months of the show.
5. "Secret materials" (since 1993). The science fiction series lasted nine years and became an integral part of the pop culture of the 90s. He talks about the work and personal life of two FBI agents, whose roles were played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Children's series of the 90's

A selection of serials targeted at children and adolescents:

1. "Lassie" (Canada, 1997). A series about the thirteen-year-old boy Timmy and his faithful dog Lassie, who in every series performs some kind of feat. It is a remake of the original, released in 1954.
2. "Sabrina is a little witch" (1996). A TV series about a teenage girl who learns she has magical abilities. Sabrina learns to live with the thought that she is a witch. The series lasted seven seasons.
3. "Harry - a snowman" (1993-1996 gg.). A series about the Hendersen family, who managed to make friends with a snowman.
4. "Alf" (1990). It was broadcast in Russia since 1996. A series about a small inhabitant of the planet Melmak, a decent glutton and cheerful person.
5. "Xena - the Warrior Princess" (since 1995). The series about the invincible warrior and fearless girl Xena, who is ready at any time to help those in need.

Sitcoms of the 90s

The flowering of the Russian sitcom (situational comedies) took place in the 2000s, while in Europe and the United States this genre was already represented quite widely:

1. "Helen and the boys" (France, 1992). Sitcom lasted six seasons and closed in 1994. However, the producers decided to give a second life to the characters and launched the series "Dreams of Love" (1995). The action was moved from the campus. The guys have already finished their studies, and they have begun their adult life.
2. "Friends" (USA, since 1994). The series was shot for ten years and became the most popular comedy project of its time, bringing great fame to all actors, as well as many awards and television awards.
3. "Married ... with children" (USA, 1987-1997). A comedy series about the difficult life of one big family.
4. "The New Addams Family" (Canada, USA, 1998). Remake of the series in 1964 in a more modern reading.
5. "Mr. Bean" (Great Britain, 1990-1995). A series about a strange Englishman, Mr. Binet, about extraordinary problems and methods for solving them.

So, the list presented is only a small part, reflecting the pop culture of that generation. But these popular series of the 90's, undoubtedly, were the most memorable.
