Poplin or satin? What is better to choose for outfits and bed linen

Different fabrics are created by different ways of weaving threads. The properties and appearance of the material depend on their mutual arrangement. Here, in particular, how poplin differs from satin and other tissues: when it is produced, the principle of linen weaving is applied. This is the most simple drawing, in which the longitudinal (base) and transverse (weft) threads overlap each other in staggered order. Satin weave is arranged so that on the front side of the material there are more longitudinal, thinner threads, so that the fabric looks very smooth from the outside and matte from the inside. Poplin or satin - what is the best choice if you want the thing to have a noble shine? Of course, satin, because in addition to the nature of the weaving that provides gloss, it is created from twisted yarns, which adds fabrics of shimmering overflows.

The nature of fibers

Satin, coarse calico, poplin - from what raw materials do these fabrics produce? Satin and poplin today are made both from natural (cotton, wool, silk) material, and from chemical fibers. In poplyn often use a mixture of natural and synthetic threads. Coarse calico, which is also made by the method of linen weaving, is produced only from cotton. All fabrics are to be stained.

Poplin or satin

What's better? It depends on the individual preferences of the consumer. One likes a smooth and cool cloth, while others prefer a deliberately uneven structure that gives the fabric a sense of home comfort. The peculiarity of poplin lies in the fact that when weaving a thick transverse duck lies across the thin warp threads so that it forms a kind of hem on the back and front sides of the material. Historians inform us that this fabric appeared in the French residence of the Pope, and in translation into Russian means "papal".

A dense shiny satin comes from China. The word came from the Arabic name of the Chinese harbor - Zaytun, from where ships sailed, which transported the rolls of magnificent material to Europe. Medieval craftsmen sewed from satin luxurious clothes for noble persons. Due to its fantastic strength, they were decorated with shoes and palace furniture.

Modern use

The classical application of these fabrics is the sewing of clothes and linen. Calico, poplin or satin - what is better to choose, for example, for bed linen? A great popularity with housewives uses coarse calico, it is inexpensive and practical. Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers made of natural poplin are very good to the touch, almost do not crinkle, they perfectly absorb moisture and retain heat. They are nice to wrap themselves around and fall asleep sweetly on a cold winter night. On the contrary, the bedding made of satin in the hot and stuffy weather looks seductive. The smooth, shining surface overcomes the heat. The material is durable, preserves color for a long time and is easy enough to take care of.

Dresses, shirts, tablecloths, too, willingly sew from the presented fabrics. Clothing from a stuffed calico, however, now you do not meet very often, but widely used poplin or satin. Which is better worn and looks: satin shirt or t-shirt from poplin, poplinovaya skirt or satin jacket?

The touch of both materials to the skin is extremely pleasant, the things of them are wear-resistant and do not require special care. And if the dignity of poplin can be considered his ideal characteristics in clothes for sports and recreation, then the satin's strong side is his festive satin glow. It is unlikely that these materials compete with each other, outfits from both fabrics have an equal right to take a place in your wardrobe.
