What is the size of a matchbox? Matchbox drawing with dimensions

A match is called a thin wooden shank, equipped with an incendiary head from above. The main purpose of this wand is to get an open fire. No matches today can not do without a single person. With their use, they light a gas in the kitchen, build a fire in the forest, light up cigarettes, etc. The size of the match is small, and therefore they are usually used in large quantities. It would be extremely inconvenient to store them in bulk. Therefore, they are folded into small boxes. The latter can accommodate them in themselves for several dozen, hundreds or even thousands of pieces. The size of the matchbox, respectively, can be different. However, certain standards of height, width and length are still available.

A bit of history

The matches themselves were invented in 1805 by physicist J. Chancell. For a long time they were sold without a box. The size of the matches at that time was more than now, and they were lit up on any hard surface. The first boxes for their storage presumably appeared in 1833. Initially, the grater was located inside. Not too convenient was, of course, the fact that matches in such boxes sometimes spontaneously ignited simply because of friction against each other.

Secure matches started to be produced only in the middle of the 19th century. in Sweden. In Russia, they appeared in the 1880s. The matches from Sweden originally cost us very much in the country, only wealthy people could use them.

The standard size of a matchbox

Such products are produced today most often from ordinary cardboard. On sale are pocket variants of matchboxes, household, fireplace, etc. But most often, of course, the first variety of such cardboard products is used.

The size of a matchbox standard defines GOST 1820-2001. What exactly should be the dimensions of this product, see the table below.

As you can see, the length of the standard box is not five centimeters, as everyone is used to think. This figure is slightly larger. The size of a matchbox in centimeters is 5.05x3.75x1.45. The matches themselves are produced in length 42.5 mm, thickness 2.05 mm. 45 boxes are to be packed in the box, but in some cases it is allowed to reduce their number to 38. It is interesting that in Soviet times, according to the standards, there should be at least 60 pieces packed in boxes of this size.

Design labels and ease of use

The matchbox is a regular cardboard box, both sides of which are covered with labels. The design of the latter can be any, but it is not the same. The labels are arranged in such a way that the consumer can immediately understand how the inside of the box is turned. If they had the same design, matches when opened would be very easy to disperse. Most often on the face labels of modern boxes are displayed logos of different companies, and on the reverse side - their contact details.

What other standards are there?

Norms GOST, in addition to different design labels, in the manufacture of matchboxes are as follows:

  • Instead of two, one label (top side) is allowed.

  • The inner part of the box must be tightly held in the outer one and not fall out with any change in its position.

  • The phosphor float on the wide side of the box should not exceed 4 mm.

  • The label should not extend over a narrower part than 1 mm.

  • The total area of the phosphoric mass of the grater should provide free ignition of a double number of matches in the box.

As for the matches themselves, it is not allowed to fly off sparks and burning slag when they are ignited. The head must be at least 2.5 mm in length. The presence of sulfur is not allowed. Below is a drawing of a matchbox with dimensions (standard).

How to store and transport

Filled match boxes are packed according to GOST 13511-91. First they are wrapped in paper bundles of 10 pcs. Then fold in cardboard boxes. The latter are transported in covered transport in packaged condition. On open platforms, such products can not be transported. After all, when you get wet, matches to use will become unsuitable. Store matches at a temperature of not more than 40 degrees and humidity 85%.

Other dimensions

Standard matches are sold at each grocery store and a tobacco kiosk. But sometimes in the shopping center you can see boxes of other sizes. For example, on sale sometimes there is similar in form and design to the standard version of "700" or "500". The size of the matchbox of this variety can be 92x80x46 mm (700 pcs.) Or 52x70x132 (500 pcs.). Of course, you can not put such a product in your pocket, but it can be quite convenient for the kitchen.

Also you can buy matches "Household" in very large boxes - 75x225x155 mm or 47x196x130 mm. This version has a slightly different design than the usual one. The retractable part is not there. It is installed vertically and opens from the top. Such sizes matchboxes allow you to lay in them for 2000 pcs. Matches (and in that and in another).

The matches can be sold not only in boxes, but also in beautiful jars. This option is also well suited to resourceful housewives. Matches in such banks can be poured 1100-1500 pcs. Among other things, this option and in the kitchen will look very good.

How to make your own hands a beautiful matchbox

Such a souvenir will perfectly suit as a gift to guests, if the celebration is organized, for example, in nature. The invitees will be able to use it for their intended purpose or bring them home with a memory. Best of all, if the size of the matchbox, used in this case as a frame, will be standard. But you can use any other option. Also, you should prepare a beautiful paper, ribbons and invisible (hair clips).

With the box removed and unfolds the upper part. On paper beautiful inscriptions are applied. You can do it by hand. But it's better to find a template on the Internet and print it on the printer. Then the paper is cut to size box (2 large walls and 1 small). Stick it in such a way that 1 grater remains in sight. Uneven edges can be cut using scissors and a ruler. Next, the box needs to be glued neatly again. In order that the paper does not leave, you can use invisible. After the glue dries, you can insert into the beautiful shell itself a box with matches.

To make a souvenir look even more attractive, it is worth tying a beautiful ribbon, making a bow or a rose. Sometimes in such gift boxes, instead of matches, put a suitable piece of bright toilet soap. In this case, it turns out to be a very interesting souvenir. What size matchbox to choose in this case - the issue is not too important. Beautifully it will look like a small souvenir with soap, and big.

Unusual boxes

Of course, if you want, you can buy a ready-made model of such an original souvenir. Look very nice, for example, calendars, products, divided into two parts (for whole matches and burnt), or with holes for candles. An interesting gift can also be, for example, a box of wood, designed for only one match, cowboy, and so on.
