Planting potatoes in Siberia. Timing, methods, necessary fertilizers

Siberia is a huge region of our country with a predominance of a temperate and sharply continental climate. Refers to high risk land for agricultural farming. Nevertheless, the planting of potatoes in Siberia occupies an important place in the directions of the activity of this branch in the given locality.

The climate of the eastern regions is a long and protracted winter, short and hot summers, possible late frosts at the end of spring, uneven precipitation, most of which occur at the end of summer and early autumn. The climatic conditions of the western regions are somewhat milder, but also carry a risk for agricultural work. Such natural whims forced to adhere to certain rules for the cultivation of plant crops.

Planting potatoes in Siberia is produced in the eastern regions, beginning in mid-May. Western regions can start such types of agricultural work at the beginning of the same month. People's landmark for the start of the work - buds blossoming on the birch. If we take a scientific approach, planting potatoes in Siberia should be carried out at a soil temperature of 9 degrees Celsius.

Ways of planting potatoes

- Traditional one-line method. The material is deposited in rows dug at a distance of 70 centimeters between them. Disadvantage: when hummocking, the root system of the bush is broken, which leads to a decrease in yield.

- Ribbon method. Modernized analogue of the traditional principle. Make two rows at a distance of 30 centimeters from each other, the next two rows are located at a greater distance - 110 centimeters. Keep in mind that if you decide to make a landing in this way, then humming will require heavy physical effort, due to the fact that the land will be raked with a capture from wide inter-rows. But, judging by the reviews, this method gives a good harvest.

- Comb method. Planting potatoes in Siberia can use this method, but due to the fact that the precipitation is uneven, similar experiments can be used only when you have close groundwater on the site, or the land poorly passes moisture. For potatoes, the oxygen that enters the soil is important, and the comb method can provide it and involves two options:

  1. The planted area is shallow (8-10 cm) and at a short distance (25 cm) there is a planting material, and a comb is placed on it up to a height of 20 cm from the tubers. The distance between the embankments is 70 cm.
  2. Prepare crests in height 30 cm and at a distance of 90 cm from each other, along them spread potatoes and fall asleep on the ground.

The use of the ridge variant of planting potatoes on dry plots can lead to the death of the entire crop. In addition, plants planted in this way may require additional protection against frost, due to the rapid appearance of sprouts.

When choosing a site for potatoes, give preference to those where cabbage or cucumbers grew earlier. Fertilizer for potatoes should be planted immediately before starting work. Use a flaky humus or compost with the addition of a small amount of wood ash. Mix with the soil before planting the planting material.

Planting potatoes with a cultivator will greatly facilitate the work of the horticulturist and gardener and will speed up the process. Which way to choose is up to you. Good harvest!
