Pharmaceutical preparation "Zoladex", instruction for use informs, is issued in the form of depot-capsules. They are characterized by prolonged action. They are administered subcutaneously.

The main active ingredient is goserelin. Depending on the dosage in one capsule, it contains either 3.6 or 10.8 milligrams. The auxiliary component is a copolymer of glycolic and lactic acid.

The drug "Zoladex" instruction prescribes the use for the treatment of the following diseases:

1. With a content of 3.8 milligrams of active ingredient:

- prostate cancer, sensitive to the effects of hormones;

- breast cancer in women of childbearing age, as well as during menopause;

- endometriosis;

- uterine fibroid (in the role of an auxiliary medication in combination with surgical treatment).

In addition, the drug in question is widely used before surgical resection or ablation of the endometrium for the purpose of its thinning; For desensitization of the pituitary gland during the preparation for stimulation of superovulation during the in vitro fertilization procedure.

2. With a content of 10.8 milligrams of goserelin:

- uterine fibroid (as an adjunct to surgical therapy);

- malignant neoplasm in the prostate gland, sensitive to the action of hormones;

- endometriosis.

Pharmaceutical preparation "Zoladex", the instruction specifies, is contraindicated for use in pregnancy, breast-feeding, in childhood. It is also not prescribed when the patient is hypersensitive.

The drug of 3.6 milligrams is injected subcutaneously into the abdominal wall (anterior) once every twenty-eight days, 10.8 milligrams every twelve weeks.

Repeated courses of treatment are not appointed, since there is a risk of reducing bone mineral density.

Correction of medicament volumes for patients with a history of renal or hepatic insufficiency, as well as for the elderly, is not carried out.

Side effects of "Zoladex" can cause the following:

- At the beginning of therapy, some women experienced vaginal bleeding (duration and intensity were different). This phenomenon, perhaps, is a reaction to a decrease in the concentration of estrogens. As a rule, it passes by itself.

- Anaphylaxis and other hypersensitivity reactions.

- Change in indicators of blood pressure (both increase and decrease).

- Skin rash, arthralgia.

- Sinking of the spinal cord, ureter obstruction.

- Hypercalcemia.

- Syndrome of hyperstimulation of the ovaries developing on the background of taking this medication together with gonadotropin.

The drug "Zoladex" can cause fetal development anomalies.

Throughout the course of therapy, women should use non-hormonal methods of contraception until the resumption of menstruation.

The considered pharmaceutical agent with special care is assigned to male patients who are at risk of developing compression of the spinal cord and ureteric obstruction. This category of persons is systematically monitored during the first four weeks of treatment.

Due to the fact that the demineralization of bones develops, the patients receiving the course of endometriosis treatment are receiving estrogenic and progestagenic agents.
