Parental Saturday in October, November-2014. Parental Saturdays in 2015

Parental Saturday, as a day dedicated specifically to the ritual commemoration of the dead, is known in Russia for two intertwining types of rituals, which go back to, in fact, the Slavic culture and Orthodox-Byzantine. Thus, in Russia not always the folk traditions of commemoration of the deceased coincided with church rites.

So, the main parents' Saturdays in 2015 have floating dates, 7 of them are timed to church holidays, and only one parent Saturday has a fixed day. This is May 9, the day of commemoration of the deceased soldiers.

Funeral services and cemeteries

The very name of such Saturdays occurred, most likely, due to the fact that the deceased ancestors and relatives were called "parents". According to another version, the name came from the primary commemoration of the Christians by their parents.

Be that as it may, in these days in the temples are performed special services - requiems. The funeral service (in the Greek translation "Vigil") is a funeral service in which people pray for the repose of the dead and ask the Lord to forgive their sins that have passed away and show mercy to them.

On parental Saturday there is another tradition - visiting graves of relatives and relatives in the cemetery.

Two parents' Saturdays in 2015, as in all other years, are called Ecumenical. In these days the church commemorates with prayers of absolutely all baptized deceased. They are Sabbath Meatfare - Parent Saturday 2015 falls on February 14, a week before Lent. The second is Saturday, Trinity, going on the eve of the feast of Pentecost. This parental Saturday 2015 falls on May 30.

"Floating" for two months parental Saturday

There are also memorial dates falling on different months because of their attachment to the Julian calendar. One such date is Dmitrievskaya parental Saturday. This timing is due to its dependence on the day of memory of Dimitry of Thessalonica, celebrated on October 26 in the old style (or November 8, according to the new style). Thus, the parental Saturday falls either in November or in October.

In these days, the priests strongly recommend believers to attend the universal prayer in the temple, explaining this by bringing more benefit to the deceased, but, undoubtedly, it is necessary to visit the cemetery in the near future.

The remaining parental Saturdays of 2015, as in any other year, are the date of private remembrance of the deceased.

The tradition to visit these days of the cemetery is folk. The church does not protest against it, but recommends before commencing the cemetery first to visit the funeral services.

Saturday Meatfeed, called the Universal Parenthood Saturday, is held on February 14

It was Saturday that was in ancient times the commemoration day of the deceased. The establishment of the Meat-Filled Sabbath on the eve of the Great Lent is attributed to the apostolic tradition of a meeting of believing Christians in cemeteries for a certain time. On the Sunday of the oily moth - Cheese Week - the Orthodox Church performs rites on the recollection of the Second Coming of Christ, and on the previous day it is required to restore the connection of all people living and living on earth for the meeting of the Last Judgment.

All-church solemn commemoration on this day brings immeasurable benefit to deceased relatives, since the immortal soul after the loss of the body needs prayer most of all, because it can not do good deeds itself.

In the home atmosphere, the whole family gathers for a memorial dinner. Dinner is preceded by a thorough cleaning of the house and yard, as well as the preparation of a large number of dishes. To welcome and treat the souls of their ancestors, tableware is placed on the table with a grain, into which a burning candle is inserted. Souls put food in a separate bowl, pour vodka and kvass, and after dinner dishes are not cleaned until the morning.

In some places this parental Saturday was associated with lighting the lights on the graves of relatives, with the aim of awakening nature to a new life.

The Sabbaths of the Second, Third and Fourth Week of Great Lent

According to the charter of the Christian Orthodox churches, during the Lent the funeral services - lithium, memorial service, litany, sorokoust, and commemoration of the third, ninth and fortieth days from death - can not be performed. Specifically for the conduct of such ceremonies, the church singled out Sabbaths of the second, third and fourth weeks of Fasting.

Thus, the second parental Saturday in 2015 falls on March 7. March 14 takes Saturday the third week, and on March 21 falls Saturday 4 th week.

April 21, 2015 - Radonica

It is an Eastern Slavic feast of remembrance of the dead, which takes place in the spring. It falls on Tuesday Fominoy week and in some places is called Krasnaya Gorka. According to Russian Orthodox traditions, the first day after Easter is the commemoration day, since up to the ninth day of funeral services is not held. In Belarus - the official day off.

This holiday has a lot of pagan component of the part, including the tradition of remembering the ancestors in the cemetery with alcohol. Part of the food brought to the grave was eaten, another was given to the poor, the third was left on the graves.

According to Slavic folklore, on this day mermaids, leche, and water leave their habitual habitats and come closer to people. To discourage the evil spirits, the ritual bonfires burned.

November 7 - Dmitrievskaya parental Saturday

This commemoration date is celebrated a week before November 8 - the day of memory of Dimitry of Thessalonica. Including, if the day of the memory of this saint falls on a Saturday, then the parent is considered to be the previous one.

The day of a special commemoration of the deceased she was endowed after the victory of the Russian troops in the Battle of Kulikovo Field in 1380 and was originally intended just for the commemoration of the soldiers who died in this battle. However, already by the 15th century in the New Town Chronicle, it was mentioned as a day of general funeral services.

It will be a parent Saturday in November 2015. Traditionally, on Saturday before Dmitriev, farewell memorial service for ancestors was celebrated in the afternoon, and the Dmitrovskaya week itself was called Dedovaya. In some places in Belarus, the wake that was celebrated on Friday was lean ("grandfathers"), and on Saturday - fast ("women").

During the general memorial home meal, the older members of the family recited a prayer for repose, reminding all members of the family up to the seventh tribe inclusive. At the head of the table sat the head of the family - a grandfather or a man - and then all sat down according to seniority. Strict observance of this principle is associated with the belief that death takes before the one who sits at the memorial table. Women sat at the table on the left side of the entrance to the house, men - on the right. There was a separate table for children.

Sometimes this parental Saturday is in October. Her ritualism is no different from that of the November commemoration. At the funeral dinner, an odd number of dishes were prepared, among which the indispensable and the first dish was kutya, prepared from pearl or rice cereals. At the end of the supper, the funeral candle was extinguished by a slice of bread.

It is celebrated only in several regions of Russia and is associated with a prayer for the dead soldiers who laid their lives for faith and the Fatherland in the battle of Kazan in 1552.

A short note on the notes

The parental Saturday itself begins with the morning funeral Divine Liturgy, followed by a general requiem. On parastas or liturgy, you can write notes about the commemoration of relatives. There is also an old church tradition of bringing parishioners or cahors to the church for the celebration of the Liturgy.
