Norway, Preikestolen: description and interesting facts

The incredible beauty of the Prejestulen cliff in Norway is one of the most impressive natural attractions in the world. Annually millions of lovers of beauty come here - to the end of the world to admire this miracle. For fans of extreme leisure Norway, Mount Preikestolen in particular, is an ideal place. The one who sees it for the first time can not hide admiration along with the shock, because it is just a giant and oddly hanging over the picturesque fjord to Luce.

Norway, Preikestolen: description and origin of the name

The coastline of this northern country, which is known for its unique nature, is heavily indented and rocky. Narrow strips of land deeply cut into the sea and form fjords. In the commune Forasann there is a picturesque bay with the beautiful name of the Lysefjord. It is here that Prekestulen rock, known throughout the world for its unspeakable beauty , is located. Norway attracts the whole flow of tourists precisely because of this natural phenomenon. The height of this cliff is about 600 meters. Opposite him is the Kierag plateau. By the way, in ancient times this rock was known by a different name. In Norway, Prequestum in those distant times called Hyvlatonnå. Today, it also has several titles, for example, Preacher's Pulpit (Pulpit) or Pulpit Rock, which translates as "The Rock-Chair". This name is especially often used by tourists coming from the Foggy Albion - UK.

Kierag

The mountain plateau has the form of a regular quadrangle - a square. Its parameters are 25 x 25 m. Having appeared on this wide "viewing" platform of natural origin, the most daring have the opportunity from a bird's eye view to observe the beautiful views, which are famous for the Lysefjord, and to photograph them. Many who have visited this place later say that they did not experience such an emotional outbreak in any part of the world. The fjord itself is of great interest: it is deep, teeming with a diverse fish, has the color of a stunning blue hue. However, observation from above increases the impression of what was seen at times. After that, you will be firmly convinced that you have visited one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

The Lysefjord

The shores of this bay are practically not inhabited, since the normal life of people is hampered by a special relief. In a word, the other advantage of the fjord to Luce, which gives him a unique charm, is the virginity of nature. 10,000 years ago, as a result of the retreat of the giant glacier, a large narrow crack was formed here on land, the length of which was 42 kilometers. She immediately filled with water. Nothing has changed since then. The shores of the bay are guarded by high cliffs. The height of some of them is about 1000 meters. They almost completely hide the view of the fjord - the pearl of Norway - from prying eyes. Pre-celestial, or, as it is otherwise called, the "Faculty of the Preacher", allows you to fully enjoy the beauties of Luce. By the way, there is another way to contemplate the marvelous landscape - a walk on the boat, however, impressions from this will be completely different. But it has another plus - the opportunity to go fishing in the Lysefjord, while on a tourist boat.

The most beautiful cliff in the world: Preikestolen (Norway)

Those who at least once visited the area, then they say that they were "on the edge" - in the most direct sense of the word. From here opens a truly fantastic landscape, which can not be seen anywhere else in the world. This place, naturally, was chosen by photographers from all over the world, since the pictures from the viewing platform turn out to be incredibly colorful.
Someone seems that he seemed to have been transported by a time machine into the distant past, when no one had inhabited our Earth yet, and someone seems to have an impression that he is on a different planet. Speaking of Pre-celestial, it is impossible in your speech to avoid the use of adjectives in superlatives. All the tourists who dared to visit the "edge", sharing their impressions, now and then repeat the word "most". By the way, the most amazing thing that you can see from the "viewing" platform of natural origin - floating under your feet clouds.

How to get?

Unfortunately, not every tourist is allowed to be on the rock Preikestolen. And this is not at all because of the high cost of ticket prices or because of any restrictions. The thing is that ascent is given only to physically prepared and strong people. The ascent to the "Faculty of the Preacher" is not an easy one.

As we have already noted, this place is in a pristine state, and there are no funiculars for comfortable ascent here. The only sign of civilization is car parking. Next is a narrow path. Its length is 4 kilometers. That is, to get to the "observation deck", tourists have to go about two hours. Of course, if the path ran along a flat terrain, then it would be possible to spend no more than 1 hour on the way, but we are talking about a mountain path with a pile of huge stones that need to be climbed. Constant swings, rises, descents - all this is very tiring.

If you are still burning desire to see with your own eyes the most beautiful species opening from this plateau and specially for this purpose came to Norway, Pre-Czech is, of course, able to submit to you. However, you need to soberly assess their strength, so as not to let the group down or not return half way. By the way, the descent from the cliff to the majority is even more difficult, so the return time travels even more. In a word, you have to spend from 4-5 hours to 30 minutes to stay on a plateau, take a picture and admire Lysefjord.

Of course, what is to be seen is worth the effort, but before the departure, experienced travelers recommend still weighing the pros and cons. But up to the foot you can take buses running along a regular route. To do this, you need to come to the commune of Forssan, and there already buy a ticket.

A warning

It may very well be that in the future, the ascent to Prekestulen Rock will be banned, since a fissure has formed at the foot of the "Faculty of the Preacher", which is growing every year. According to geologists, the day when this rock collapses into the blue of the Lysefjord is not far off. Nevertheless, these warnings do not stop tourists, who are eager to climb the mountain. The biggest extremals are those who climb Preikestolen in winter on an icy trail and under the gusts of the north wind. But what can not you do for the giant dose of adrenaline ?!

Traveler's booklet

By the way, all who are interested in this, the Prekestulen rock enters the not very large list of objects used for basijjumping, that is, skydiving (not from an airplane). And yet parachutists here are a rarity. The thing is that because of the abundance of tourists there is practically no place to takeoff. For all the time, only about 30,000 paratroopers jumped into the waters of the Lysefjord from the Prekestulen cliff and the Kjöräga plateau. Someone will figure the figure is large, but to someone insignificant.
