Motilium: instructions

Motilium is produced in tablets intended for resorption or in the form of a suspension. The active substance of the drug is domperidone, which refers to antiemetics of central action, which blocks dopamine receptors in the brain.

Motilium (instruction on this indicates) has antiemetic properties due to the fact that domperidone inhibits the production of dopamine, as some neuroleptics. However, the active substance is poorly absorbed through the blood-brain barrier, after its administration, almost no side effects are observed. It should be noted that Motilium stimulates the pituitary gland, in particular, the release of prolactin.

When treated with domperidone, the period of danthral and duodenal contractions increases, gastric emptying is accelerated, and the pressure of the sphincter located in the lower part of the digestive system increases in healthy people. The drug does not affect the production of gastric juice.

Pharmacokinetic characteristics

After taking an empty stomach, the medicine "Motilium" (the instruction says this) is quickly absorbed from the intestinal tract. The maximum concentration of the drug in blood plasma is determined after 60 minutes.

Domperidone is recommended to be taken before meals, as studies have shown that this medication taken after a meal is absorbed from the intestinal walls longer.

Motilium, indications for use

The drug is prescribed:

- with a digestive disorder, which is accompanied by a feeling of overflow of the stomach, bloating, pain, belching, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, heartburn;

- with nausea and vomiting of functional, organic, infectious etiology that has arisen after radiotherapy, drug treatment or diet violation;

- with nausea and vomiting caused by dopamine agonist drugs in cases of their administration in Parkinson's disease (L-dopa, for example, and bromocriptine).

Motilium, dosage instructions

With the digestive disorder in chronic form, adults and children who reached the age of five are prescribed 10 mg of the drug. Drink before meals in about 30 minutes. If necessary, the doctor may recommend the use of the motilium before bedtime. The maximum daily dose for children under 12 years of age (from 5 years) is prescribed in the amount of 2.4 mg of domperidone per 1 kg of the body weight of the child, but it should not exceed 80 mg.

Observing the absence of effect, the doctor can double the single dose of Motilium for adults, as well as for children who have reached the age of 12. But in any case, you can not exceed the maximum daily dose - 80 mg.

Motilium (the instruction clearly indicates this), produced in the form of tablets for resorption, is intended only for adults and children who have a body weight of more than 35 kg. In pediatrics, a pharmaceutical suspension of Motilium® should be used.

For patients with renal insufficiency, it is recommended to increase the interval between each two doses of the drug. In connection with the fact that only 1% of domperidone is excreted unchanged in kidneys, it is no longer necessary to adjust the amount of a single dose of a drug for patients with kidneys. At repeated appointment the doctor should consider gravity of a renal failure, in special cases the dose decrease can be demanded.

Contraindications to the drug "Motilium"

The medicine can not be taken inside:

- with mechanical intestinal obstruction or perforation, when it is dangerous to stimulate the motor function of the stomach;

- with gastrointestinal hemorrhage;

- with the established prolactin-secreting tumor of the pituitary (prolactinoma);

- with simultaneous admission ketoconazole is preoral;

- in children under 5 years of age, a tablet form is contraindicated, "Motilium" is recommended as a suspension;

- with an allergic reaction to one of the components of the drug.

Since the bulk of the medication is excreted through the liver, it is prudent to prescribe domperidone to patients with insufficient hepatic function.
