Modern prose: what to esteem connoisseurs of exquisite literature?

Now it is exactly the time when all the old and long ago seemingly out of fashion are beginning to be valued. In the wake of the emergence of a culture of hipsters it became popular to read only classics, watch movies only from the 60's and wear strange and un-modern hairstyles. Even without being a representative of this culture, such moods involuntarily penetrate more and more every day.

2005 as a starting point

Many started complaining about the poor quality of the film industry after 2005 and took it as a rule to criticize everything that contemporary prose now offers. What to read to a person without going into the classics?
No matter how many critics complain about the lack of normal literature, on bookshelves in stores today you can still find very worthwhile works. Some authors still write books not for the sake of a fee, but for the sake of creativity, although it has become much less. So, what does modern prose offer the sophisticated reader today? What to read to the refined fans of philosophical literature?

Strange literature of Japan

The Japanese have always been considered an unusual nation throughout the world. Their dissimilarity is reflected in almost everything: in the features of their national cuisine, music, cinema and, of course, literature. One of the most popular Japanese writers of our time is Haruki Murakami. His books are filled simultaneously and traditionally with Japanese philosophical overtones, and beautiful descriptions, and interesting plot weaves. But what should readers do if they are not too enthusiastic about the complex esoteric and metaphysical reasoning with which Japanese contemporary prose is filled?

What to read in this case, will prompt Koji Suzuki. Few people heard this name, but for sure many watched the movie "Call", the script of which was composed precisely under the influence of the "Ring" Suzuki. This book, divided into several parts, very unusual to each other, will give the reader a lot of unforgettable hours. "Ring" is a mystical thriller with detective elements. It may be difficult for a Russian-speaking reader to remember the Japanese names used in the book, but this does not affect the perception of the storyline.

Sci-Fi for big and small

What else does modern prose have in store? What to read to fans of fiction and English color? Here there can be only one answer: the works of John Wyndham. His novel "Day of the Triffids" will not leave indifferent even opponents of the genre of post-apocalypse. If you are tired of the fact that any end of the world always begins in New York or another big city in America, then John Wyndham will please you with a completely different approach. The author does not claim that the apocalypse began in London, he logically assumes that the end of the world is for this and Armageddon, to simultaneously start all over the world. The English science fiction writer describes the plot development, reveals the characters and uses good humor.

Another great science fiction writer is Richard Matheson. Attention deserves his novel "I am a legend". Those techniques, which in their books use Wyndham and Matheson, can rarely boast of foreign contemporary prose. What to read to those who like more relaxing and entertaining literature? To help such readers have long been Joan Rowling with his "Harry Potter", as well as dozens of her followers like Dmitry Yemtsa.

Humorous fantasy from Russia

Dmitry Emets has a good sense of humor and likes to sneer at almost everything. His series "Tanya Grotter" began precisely as a plagiarism of a series of books about the Boy Who Survived, but in the end, "Tanya" turned into a completely different work. Yemets came out of the framework of the universe, created by Joanne Rowling, and began to create his own severe Russian fantasy for teenagers. His books are very popular - it is only "Tane Grotter" or the next "Methodius Buslaevu" appear on the bookshelves, as many fans immediately sweep away all to the last book.

Many readers, however, are upset by modern Russian prose. What should I read to those who prefer books more seriously? For them, there is Nick Perumov and his huge series of works in the style of fantasy. Some readers may think that the language used by this author is unjustifiably pathetic. Nevertheless, his works are very easy to read, and multiple storylines do not let the reader get bored. Particularly well, Perumov succeeded in the series "Chronicle of the Rift".

For those who like to tickle their nerves

And what is frightening and especially frightening offers today the reader modern prose? What to read? Critics' reviews are full of references to the master of horrors of Stephen King, and not for nothing. His books really bother him, and it's especially good for King to describe in detail the heinous scenes of murders or mystical deaths. A large number of such images can be found in his book "Necessary things", which is not recommended for reading to nervous people.

The most famous works of King - "It", "Shine" and "Black Tower". Widespread fame brought to the author numerous screen versions of his works, however, none of them was able to convey the very unique atmosphere, which so frightens the readers.

hope dies last

Many readers perceive literature only in terms of its popularity, but in the literary "underground" you can find real pearls. For example, Max Barry is very popular in his homeland, in America, but in the CIS countries he is still very little known. His wonderful and extremely stylish novel "Syrup", narrating about the intricacies of a career in marketing, best illustrates what modern prose should be. The best books are still probably not translated into Russian, so it's too early to lose hope for the best.
