Miniature roses - decoration of any garden

Decorative and unpretentious

Miniature roses are bred in China, and in Europe they learned about them only in 1810. They immediately received high praise from gardeners for their decorative qualities and unpretentious care. In any, even a small garden, there are corners that can decorate mini roses. They are suitable for curbs, they will take their place in the flower beds, they blend well with other colors on the workings. If the garden has slopes with stony soil, where it is difficult to grow flowers, ground cover varieties of these roses will perfectly suck up there. They will not take the last place in the alpine hill. They can be grown in pots, vases, garden sculptures. For 2 centuries of cultivation in Europe, the miniature rose has gained many admirers among professionals and amateurs of gardening. These bushes can be planted in a variety of climatic zones - you just need to know the basics of caring for them.

A place under the sun

The first condition for successful cultivation of mini-roses is the choice of a suitable plot in the garden. This corner should not be in the shade and blown by the northern winds. The sun needs roses also because it quickly evaporates moisture from the leaves, and this protects plants from diseases with powdery mildew and rust. Miniature roses are undemanding to the soil, but they prefer weakly acidic loams that hold moisture well. If you well prepare the planting pits, bushes can be grown on any sites. In the pits, usually 2 buckets of compost or humus mixed with sand, in a ratio of 1: 1. On sandy soils, you need to add clay for the autumn digging.

Reproduction by cuttings

Miniature roses belong to the root-species - they retain all the characteristics of the cultivar during cultivation, propagate by cuttings. The last is carried out, both in room conditions (in March - September), and in the open ground (May - August). The planting material is cut, when colored buds appear on the plant, it is taken from the middle part of annual shoots. The stalk should be 10-12 cm long and not less than three kidneys. Place the cut shoots in the sand, to a depth of 3-5 cm and cover with glass jars or a polyethylene film to retain moisture. After the appearance of the roots, the seedlings are placed on a permanent place, in prepared pits, covered with earth, and hibernated. Before planting, the roots are pruned and covered with a mallet (liquid clay with mullein).

Care

Miniature roses should be watered and fed regularly during the vegetative period. In early spring and with the growth of shoots, nitrogen fertilizers (urea or nitrate) contribute, in preparation for flowering - full mineral fertilizer. In the second half of the summer superphosphate and potassium nitrate are introduced into the soil . The land around the bushes should always be loose and provide access to the roots of air and water.

Where winters are harsh, roses should be sheltered. With the onset of cold weather, bushes hill up to a height of 13-18 cm, wire frames are placed above them, on which are placed insulation material and polyethylene film. In the spring, overwintered flowers must be ventilated, opening shelters on the sides.
