Mass communication as an integral attribute of human life

Mass communication includes magazines, newspapers and television. Quite often they are associated with entertainment, because of which many prefer not to spend their time on them, although such a point of view is fundamentally not true.

Mass communication affects almost every aspect of modern life. For example, all money transactions are associated with a certain exchange of information between devices. A bank account is not a bunch of precious pieces of paper firmly hidden in an armored safe, but a certain sequence of numbers printed on a magnetic tape of the card and stored in a database.

Television and newspapers also have a significant impact on our worldview. This is not only due to the specific impact on our positions, but also because they give access to knowledge, on which the social life largely depends.

Newspaper business

The prototypes of modern newspapers are pamphlets and information sheets distributed in the 18th century. After a while, they acquired a significant readership and began to be issued on a daily basis. In the history of media development, the newspaper has become a very important achievement, since it offered a wide variety of information in a simple and easy to understand form. It contains not only chronicles of events, but also entertainment with advertising.

More than half a century the newspapers took the leading position in the matter of fast, and most importantly, effective communication of information for the broad masses of readers. With the advent of cinema, radio and television, the role of newspapers has diminished significantly. The mass media did their job, and if in the 60s in Britain each family bought more than one newspaper every day, now the press was selling twice as poor.

Television and its influence

The ever-increasing influence of television is one of the most important achievements in the media world recently. Current trends of development suggest that in 18 years each person will spend more time watching TV than for any other occupation, except for sleep. Practically every modern family has a TV. By average indicators, people watch different TV programs at least 3 hours per day.

A separate niche among the media is the Internet. All the information contained in the global network is much more accessible than newspapers and television. Moreover, it is constantly updated, is not limited to volumes and is accompanied by graphic information.

Non-technical means of mass communication

There are also interpersonal communication tools. The most common among them can be considered communication between the speaker and the audience. Earlier oratory was considered the main form of mass communication, which allows you to promote something or someone. At the moment, this method is closely intertwined with technical means, forming the so-called symbiosis. The most striking example is the speeches of politicians, broadcast in abundance throughout all channels during the election campaign.

There are two functions of mass communication: it is personal and informational. Personality provides interaction between people, and information carries out the process of promoting new information. Both of these functions are closely related. Interaction between individuals is ensured through the dissemination of information, but it does not reduce to information processes in full.

The science of "the sociology of mass communications" fits in more detail and specifically to the study of the issue of communications. She studies the direct impact of them on the person and on his life in general, allowing to fully appreciate the importance of the media for everyday life.
