Masculinity is ... What is masculinity in women

The social, personal and physiological qualities that characterize all male representatives are called "masculinity." This is a peculiar manifestation of masculinity in all aspects of life, both in everyday, everyday, and social. The meaning of the term in different sciences can be slightly modified, but in the classics it relates exclusively to men. However, there are deviations from the norm, which are interpreted as female masculinity. How this complex of features manifests itself in both sexes, read below.

Difference between the sexes

First, let's try to decide what femininity and masculinity are. The first term characterizes all the qualities that are inherent in women. This is vulnerability, tenderness, the ability to create coziness, raise and raise children, the ability to be loving and caring. The second term covers all the qualities that must be inherent in every man. Among them there is an excerpt, strength, calmness, the ability to protect, and to be a support for the weak. Both terms can be interpreted from the point of view of essentialism and the social constructivist approach. But the decoding data are only effective if femininity and masculinity are related to a woman and a man respectively, but not vice versa.

An Essential Approach

At the heart of masculinity are biological qualities that at the physical level allow us to distinguish a man from a woman. A strong half of humanity here is regarded as a separate natural category, which has its own biological qualities inherent in all its representatives from birth to death. Thus, masculinity is what a man is in society, then how he behaves, relying on natural instincts and desires.

Similarly, femininity is treated, where the main role is played by all the physiological characteristics and characteristics of behavior that are inherent in the weaker sex. It should be noted that this theory has been subjected to very strict criticism many times. The fact is that the earthly society is not homogeneous. Each country has its own standards and ideas about what qualities should be inherent in the sexes, so there is no single characteristic for a woman and for a man from an essential point of view.

Socio-constructivist approach

In this interpretation, masculinity is a combination of social and behavioral qualities that a man should be endowed with and that society expects from him. In other words, this term implies that in each individual society, male representatives are raised from childhood, on the basis of certain standards and traditions. Thanks to this upbringing they in the future correspond to the traditional social standards for their country. The same applies to women. Any girl from the cradle is brought up according to a specific scheme, instilling in her all those qualities that should make her a real lady, a loving wife, a caring mother and so on.

Historical factor

Researchers argue that "masculinity" - this concept is not permanent. Throughout the history of mankind in different nations there were their own ideas about what a real man should look like and what a real man should do. To trace the history of development of this social aspect is possible due to those ideals that were characteristic of this or that era. These athletes are athletes, rulers of states, outstanding secular personalities, actors, artists, etc. For example, if we consider the Middle Ages and the era of the Crusades, the main qualities inherent in men will be aggression, incontinence, excessive severity and cruelty, despotism. If we turn to antiquity, then the characteristics of the stronger sex will not only be aggression and strength, but also poetry, philosophical thinking, creativity and so on.

Changing roles

We have already said that femininity is a combination of physiological and social qualities that must be inherent in every woman so that she can take her place in society. From the point of view of feminism, this is nothing more than a social framework that has been established for women by the patriarchal system. They limit the beautiful half of humanity in a variety of actions and opportunities, do not allow to develop and improve.

Later in psychology, the term "masculinity in women" officially appeared. It means that the representative of the weaker sex has the physical or social qualities that characterize the man.

Husbands

In the fifth year of life, each of us is determined in the physiological and social aspects of who he is by sex. This is achieved through education in the appropriate channel, as well as through the influence of sex hormones and other physical factors. But it happens that because of the influence of society or family, because of violations in the endocrine system, these settings are violated. As a result, the girl becomes like a boy both from external data, and from her behavior and character. However, psychologists point out that by the time of sexual maturation, the girls most often outgrow all this and become women.

Girlish masculinity: signs and characteristics

Briefly tell you how to determine the discrepancy between the girl's congenital sex.

  • Toys. The child prefers soldiers, cars, plays war toys, presents himself as a cowboy.
  • Communication with one-year-olds. The girl is friends only with the boys, while communicating with them on an equal footing.
  • Communication with adults. Here, too, the child prefers male companies. To the female representative the girl can demonstrate love with the inherent strength of the stronger sex.
  • Preferences in clothes. A masculine girl will ask her mother to wear it in things of a masculine type, she likes more than a short haircut.

Conclusion

We found that initially masculinity is a socio-physiological aspect that defines a man in society. However, in some cases, all qualities that are related to a strong gender can be inherent in women. Sometimes this is the result of incorrect education, and sometimes this is due to a violation of the hormonal background.
