"Girl from the City": a short summary

The actions of the book occur during the war. In the center of the story is a little girl Valya, who has remained an orphan. Her whole family was killed during the military operations in the city. The girl managed to escape. During the shelling, she was able to escape from the city to a nearby village.

First part

That evening she met two women - one very young, the other quite old, who led her to a small house and knocked on the door. Out on the street came a red girl. The red-haired girl saw that all three were refugees, and let them into the house. The girl's mother poured soup to them, but the orphan could not move - either because she was stiff in the cold, or out of fear. A conversation begins at the table. A good mistress asks a young woman, whether it's her daughter, this little poor thing. The old woman told her that they just lived on the same street in the city. Then the farm asked where all the relatives were girlish, and the old woman told her that there was no one, all were killed.

Inviting to stay unhappy for the night, Daria, the mistress of the house, could not sleep for a long time. She could not imagine what the baby had to go through. She got out of bed, went to the crib where the girl was sleeping and looked at her for a long time. Having finally managed to break away from the sight of the poor girl, the landlady went to her old father and asked: "Father, can we leave it? She has nowhere to go ... "At first the old man was against, referring to the fact that they themselves were village people, and the girl was from the city. But in the end, giving in to his daughter, he gave his consent. Daring Darya was beside herself with happiness and kept saying: "I will have one more daughter, Valentine's daughter ..."

The second part

The next morning the girl could not remember how she so quickly fell asleep. Voices merged, and it was hard for her to orient herself in an unfamiliar situation for her. She opened her eyes and saw an old man bending over her with thick gray brows. Only he noticed that the girl woke up, and then disappeared. The morning silence was disturbed by the sudden ringing of the bucket. Valentinka thought that this bullet hit the window, and she jumped up from the bed, with great effort managed to hold back the cry: "The Germans!"

Leaving the room, the girl saw three children of the hostess, Darya, who were examining her. One of the girls said: "Your aunties are gone. Mom said that you will live with us. " There was a silence, after which the sisters spoke again: "Did you see the fascists? Are they scary? Did they come straight to your house? "Valya's heart froze, she simply was not able to answer. At this time, a new mother looked out from the kitchen and began to chastise her daughter for asking such questions to Vale.

The third part

On the first day, Valya found it hard to get used to a new life, but she was already helping the new family at home and gradually settled in a circle in which she would now have to spend several months.

Gradually, Valya began to get used to her grandfather, who at first so much frightened her, and then began to make friends in a new village.

Only once did one of the sisters begin to get Valentinka questions about her former, murdered family. Valya could not say anything, because she was so worried about her, because she suffered so much because of her dead parents. But only this time the sister had flown in from her mother for such questions, and this topic was forever closed.

Much was happening in the house. Valentine was offended and did not understand at times. Quarrels with newly-born sisters who did not want to understand the little orphan, the girl's personal experiences - all this lasted for a long time. But Daria all this time tried to give the girl to get used to a new family.

Fourth part

In the denouement of the work Valentine brings flowers to Daria and for the first time calls her mother. A touching gesture on the part of the girl indicates that she is finally accustomed to a new family. Now Valentine feels herself here.

Reviews of the work

The book "The Girl from the City", the summary of which is not able to really convey all the impressions, is very fond of the readers. For many years this work is read by both adults and children. Touching, vital facts, the difficulty of finding happiness - all this lies at the heart of the book "Girl from the City". Reviews for many years remain enthusiastic, because the historical moment described in the work, in fact reflects the whole horror of the war with Germany, how much it hurt not only the military and their wives, but also ordinary working people who had a lot of usual troubles . The story of a little girl who saw the death of her parents and younger brother, can touch even the hardest heart. L. Voronkova and many of her works always produced a furore, because all her books are permeated with sincerity, and most importantly, with truth. Not a drop of fiction did not invest Voronkov. "Girl from the city" - a work of truth, thoroughly saturated with fear and sorrow. The main heroine, who could not even utter a word about how her parents died, she was the symbol of all those children who lost their parents during the war. How touchingly describes the writer Wali's friendship with animals - with bull, cow and lambs! Loneliness and fright in the eyes of an innocent child - this is a good description of those years when the war caught everyone.
