From the history of the city

The first mentions in written sources about Lucescu (in ancient times they called Lutsk) belong to the times of Kievan Rus. The foundation of the city historians date to 1000 year. Throughout the life of Lutsk, his fate was determined by different countries and peoples. In the XIV century, the city was considered the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality, then it was transferred to the citizenship of Lithuania, and a little later - to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. During the Revolution of 1917, the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag was raised above Lutsk for the first time . A few years later (under the Riga treaty) the city passed under the rule of Poland. In 1939, this territory became part of the USSR. All this could not but affect the architecture of the city. Lubart Castle

This is a unique construction of the end of the 13th - 14th centuries, the main attraction of the city. Together with other monuments the castle is part of the reserve "Old Lutsk". Today this outstanding construction is the first and main point in the list of travelers, visiting the sights of Lutsk and the region.

Religious buildings

  • The Jesuit monastery was erected in the 17th century. Its component part is the Peter and Paul Church. According to legend, there were underground passages connecting Lutsk with neighboring villages. Today everyone can book an excursion to these mysterious labyrinths.   • The Lutheran church is an interesting building erected in the 20th century. In the Neo-Gothic style.

  • Monument to St. Nicholas, who is considered the patron of Lutsk. The monument is the main decoration of the square in front of the city administration (on B. Khmelnitsky Street).
