Features of lint-free carpets

The cloth of such a carpet is formed by a simple interweaving of warp threads and a weft, so its surface is smooth, without pile, and the pattern can be not only on the front part, but also on the wrong side.

Thanks to the special counting technique, the master on the canvas creates not only a variety of patterns, but even real pictures, as, for example, in cross-stitch embroidery. By the way, along with the decorative lint-free carpet and in this case serves as an additional insulation.

It is believed that these carpets come from a regular mat, but now, of course, they use other materials, including synthetic ones. For example, lint-free carpets of machine production are often woven from acrylic fibers or even artificial silk. But the best and traditional material is natural wool.

From the depths of centuries

The art of carpet weaving was born many thousands of years ago. This is evidenced by written sources and archaeological finds. So, in Altai in the mound Pazyryk was found a carpet, which is 2500 years old. Thanks to the permafrost it is perfectly preserved, you can admire both the bright color, and the intricate pattern, and images of griffins, deer and horsemen.

The most ancient are woolen, lint-free carpets, which weaved in ancient Egypt and Persia. And in later times, the best products were considered Arab masters. These carpets were very expensive and were not only a luxury item, but also a symbol of greatness. They were placed in front of the throne of the rulers, and apparently from those ancient times a custom appeared in solemn occasions before honorable guests to spread carpet paths.

In Europe, carpet weaving emerged in the Middle Ages. And almost exclusively lint-free carpets were made-tapestries and tapestries, with which the walls were decorated. The best European products of this kind were Brussels trellises.

Now, a lint-free carpet is no longer a luxury, although handmade products are still highly appreciated.

Hand-held heat

With the spread of machine production, a hand-made, lint-free carpet has not lost its relevance. At all times, the master's work was respected and valued above the machine.

At present, the centers of hand-carpet weaving are concentrated in the countries of the Middle East, India, as well as in Dagestan and Azerbaijan. There are preserved not even centuries-old, but many thousands of years old traditions, and handymen (carpet weaving are mostly women) use techniques and techniques that have not changed since ancient times. Even the machines, on which beautiful carpets are made, are as simple as possible and seem to have come from the era of the pyramids and warlike nomads.

And the drawings of these carpets are also traditional. The main elements of the ornament, patterns and composition have not changed for centuries and have been preserved by more than one generation of masters. According to the picture, connoisseurs can easily distinguish Azerbaijani jedjim from Turkish kilim or Dagestani sumac.

Types of lint-free carpets

There are many varieties of such carpets, but the most famous and common are kilims and sumacs.

Kilim is a woolen, lint-free handmade carpet with a smooth surface. Its peculiarity is that it does not have the wrong side, and the bright pattern of the pattern is equally good both from the front and from the wrong side. The word "kilim" of Turkish, more precisely even of Persian, origin and means a covering for the floor.

The sumacs have a furry underside, which is formed by the ends of the woolen threads left during operation. Lint-free carpet made in this technique is softer and much warmer than kilim, and weave such carpets in Dagestan.

But the varieties of Azerbaijani carpets - Jedjim, Shedd and Zili differ not so much in technique as in ornamentation. The most striking and decorative are the zili.

Interest and respect for manual work support the existence and development of ancient art of carpet weaving. And the masters, who preserve the traditions of their ancestors, give us the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and convenience of works of art.
