Lake Shlino, Tver Oblast: Recreation and Fishing

Lake Shlino is famous for its sites belonging to the Neolithic Age. Here were found the remains of long barrows in which the Slavs lived during the Great Migration of Nations in the 5th century AD. Today the lake is a water protection zone, in which numerous springs and rare plants for the Tver region are preserved.

About the lake

In the center of the Valdai Upland, at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level, Lake Shlino is located. Outlines it resembles an oval stretched to the south. The area of the reservoir is 34 square kilometers, and the depth exceeds the mark of 4 meters. The location of the lake is interesting: the upper third (from the village of Kamenka to the place where the Troshkovsky stream flows into it) belongs to the Novgorod region, the Valdai district. The lower part of the lake is the Tver Region, Firovsky District. The structure of the lake is complex because of the abundance of creeks and bays, lakes and satellites and different size of islands. On the southern coast of the pond stretches the villages, but the southwestern part is wild, inaccessible and has not yet been studied.

Shlina River

From Lake Shlino, the Shlyn River, famous for its kayak alloys, is born. The length of the river is 112 kilometers and is divided into 4 sections, strikingly different from each other.

• The first site is rich in stones of different sizes and types, it has many steep turns. The thresholds are absent, but the sharp stones are frightening.

• The second section. For a long time, the riverbed winds through the valley, and then passes into a lake, overgrown with grass in places. If you move even further, you can see how the lake is poured into a full body of water, in which there are many water lilies. After the lake there is a sharp overgrowth of the river bed and at a low water level the passage through this area is difficult to access.

• Third site . Here the bed of the river behaves and at all unexpectedly: it bends under strange corners, makes inconceivable turns. And moments give the impression that the river crosses itself.
• The fourth is the last. The beauty of the river was left behind. Monotonous banks began to appear, overgrown with willow. There is less and less parking space.

• Rafting for 2 days . The beginning of the route takes from Lake Shlino and ends in the village of Komsomolsk. The distance of 50 km takes two light days. Recreation bases on Lake Shlino and on the river Shlyne kindly provide tired travelers with places to stay overnight.

Route program and prices

Before launching, instructors conduct instructing, and then the alloy begins directly. Instructors, based on the fatigue of tourists, make the first halt, at which the group has breakfast or drinks tea, resting. They start again. On the second, already equipped halt, travelers get a full dinner, cooked at the stake. They rest, bathe, some at will go on a short fishing trip. Then the group again sails to descend on the third and last halt, where everyone rests and bathes. Swim the last section of the road to the parking lot on Lake Glybi. On the night offer to go to the recreation center or to the island, in a tent city. This is a program for one day of a water tour.

Guest-houses and tourist centers on Lake Shlino

Not far from the village Krasilovo is a hotel on Lake Shlino. It belongs to the military-hunting society, barracks type and accommodates up to 50 guests. The hotel provides rental motor or rowing boats for fishing on the lake. At this point the lake Shlino is famous for its deep pike. Experienced anglers advise you to bring with you an echo sounder, although the old-timers say that nobody leaves the lake without a catch. In addition to the pike, you can catch crucian carp, roach, perch, ruff, bream, red piper and pike perch.

Another recreation center - "Uzmen", Firovsky district, Tver region. But the location of the base is far from Lake Shlino, so vacationers are offered on-site fishing. Tourists stop mostly from local residents or independently in tents - "savages".

Legends about the lake

On the western side of the lake, 200 meters from the shore, a small lake with black water and banks covered with moss spread in the pines. Local residents know that there lives the monster Lesnoye. Nobody ever looked at it properly, but everyone knows that it lives there.

In a beautiful place, where there is a lot of blueberries, there is a lake, that's why local people and guests come here. But the main thing is that travelers who come here should not make noise! He does not like the monster of loud cries, running around. Do not swim in the lake, let alone throw rocks and rubbish into it. Of course, the monster will not jump out of the lake and will not drag the unlucky tourists into the depths of Lake Shlino. But on the way back to the house the weather will change: a squally wind with rain, capable of passing into a storm. This angry monster, whose peace was broken.

Or he lives on the island of Blagolopia, looking out from Lake Shlino, the spirit of a black fisherman. He has a hut too. Only nobody knows who built it and lived there. In the dark stormy nights there is the spirit of a black fisherman to help those who have caught the bad weather on the water. Protects travelers, helping the lost to swim to their shore, or hospitably offers to find shelter in their hut.
