Kratos: the mythology of Ancient Greece and the place of this character in it

With the influx of popularity to the series of computer games called God of War, fans became more interested in who was the main character called Kratos. Mythology barely mentions this, and only isolated facts point to its existence and place among all individuals. This fierce warrior was not in vain chosen as the hero of the game, as Zeus himself recognized his fighting nature and ability.

Appearance

At a glance at their enemies, Kratos is terrified and desperate. Mythology tells how he got a terrible scar on his face. During the confrontation between the titans and the gods, he was split into a skull by a mountain shard, but he managed to survive. The divine blacksmith with the help of special gold plates fastened his head back, so that the warrior still served the Pantheon in future battles. In appearance, the hero has fierce features, a bald skull and dark eyes. Such an image was recreated in the game as described in Aeschylus's poem "Chained Prometheus." Of course, the developers added a lot of details from themselves, but in general terms the character and the image were transmitted correctly in the project.

Birth and the First War

It is well known that Kratos was born from the union of Pallanta and Styx. Ancient Greek mythology says that his father was a younger titan, and this status was inherited by him. The mother was an oceanic and embodied in herself the image of the most terrible underground river, which was traversed by dead souls on the way to Tartarus. It is because of her that the external features of the warrior look so harsh. Little information about the small years and adolescence in history has been preserved. Approximately in the same period, Zeus was born from the union of Crohn and Gaia. When the war broke out between the gods, their Titan parents, Kratos had to choose his side. Mythology suggests that the soldier joined the Thunderer and helped him in every way in his desire to overthrow his father. The older titans were arrogant and feared for their throne even more than later the gods themselves. The war ended in the victory of Zeus, Hades and Poseidon, not without the help of other fairy-tale creatures. Kratos became a loyal ally of the head of the Pantheon and began to serve. Judging by his armament and the prototype from the game, the soldier was sent only for military affairs and for solving various kinds of conflicts.

Service from Zeus

Few facts have survived about how the service was conducted by the gods and what Kratos was doing at that time. Mythology has brought to our time only two exact facts. The first is that the fighter was madly in love with the goddess of beauty Aphrodite. Some sources indicate that they had descendants, but it could not be confirmed. The same story was also displayed in the game, where Kratos, among all the Pantheon, regretted and did not kill only Aphrodite. The second fact is more precise, and Aeschylus wrote about him in the work "Chained Prometheus." When the titan, who had a great love and compassion for people, gave them fire, Zeus ordered him to be chained to the rock and left there to hang. Hephaestus forged special rods for this task, and to bring the order to execution was, as tells the mythology of ancient Greece, Kratos. It was to his better warrior Zeus ordered to follow the punishment of Prometheus and to score the rods as tightly as possible. Aeschylus did not describe the speech of the warrior and his emotions at this moment, and therefore no conclusions can be drawn about the character of Kratos.

The plot of the game

Developers of the game God of War in the project created their own vision of who Kratos is in Greek mythology and what his role in all stories is. At first the warrior was a Spartan commander, seasoned in battle and faithful to his deceased brother Deimos. In one of the battles his army was close to defeat, and then Kratos prayed to the god of war Ares. He heard it, took life and soul in exchange for victory and incredible power. After this, with the given blades of Chaos, the fighter sowed devastation all over the territory of a large country more than once. One day, Ares decided to cause Kratos pain and forced him to kill his family, including his daughter. After this, the furious Spartan vowed to avenge himself. From this moment began his long journey to Olympus, where he could get even with all the gods. Adventures more than once brought him from his chosen path to the service of Zeus, the salvation of the people of Greece from Morpheus, battles in the underworld and many other battles. In the end, he managed to reach Olympus and accomplished his revenge. This huge storyline was described in three parts of the series of games, the developers are planning to continue the adventures of Kratos, but in a different setting.
