In what cases are MRI diagnostics used?

Magnetic resonance imaging is one of the most effective methods for detecting pathologies in the soft tissues of the body. Thanks to the MRI method, you can explore not only the brain and spinal cord, but also other internal organs. MRI is an order of magnitude higher in quality and accuracy than X-ray examination, ultrasound and computed tomography. The advantage of MRI is that it allows to identify cancer, neurological diseases and problems with the musculoskeletal system at the earliest possible time. Most often, MRI is used for pathologies of the brain and spine. Thanks to the method, you can fully assess the structure of the organ, find pathologies, detect tumors and traumas of any origin and size. MRI is used in such areas of medicine as: urology, oncology, angiology, etc.

MRI diagnostics is carried out in a special apparatus, which not every clinic can afford. Usually the city has about 2-3 centers with such a device, and prices for MRI diagnostics in St. Petersburg fluctuate within 4000 rubles. To clarify the cost in a particular clinic, it is better to contact the administration directly.

Who would still recommend an MRI? Examination of the head is carried out in the postoperative period, with acute disruption of the blood circulation of the brain, with craniocerebral trauma. Prophylactic examinations are performed with suspicions of a tumor, diagnosis of foci of inflammation of the brain, cysts, portentsefalia and hygroma, for evaluation of brain development abnormalities after cerebral bleeding, after cerebral operations, in cases of pituitary diseases and in cases of abnormalities in the areas of the facial The skull, namely the nasopharynx, paranasal sinuses, eyeballs and orbits.

MRI of the pelvis is performed with suspicions of education in this area, for example in the uterus, ovaries, prostate gland.

MRI of the spine needs to be done to examine the muscles, joints and bones of this area. Tomography is performed with suspicion of metastases, bone tumors, muscles, vertebrae, with injuries of vertebral bodies or intervertebral discs. If there is a need to examine the condition of meniscuses, ligaments and cartilage, then the attending physician will tell you how to act in this or that case.

MRI of the spinal cord is performed with suspicions of inflammatory foci in this area, with suspicion of tumor formation, evaluation of cerebrospinal spaces, after surgery and in the analysis of pathologies of vertebrogenic origin, that is, in trauma or tumor lesions of the spine.

Restrictions on MRI is not much at all. In the patient's body, there should be no metal implants, including a pacemaker. It has not been proven a negative effect on insulin pumps, prostheses, non-ferromagnetic implants, nerve stimulators, pregnancy, etc. In such cases, it is necessary to consult with the treating doctor.
