Setting the ignition timing for any vehicle is a very important parameter, ignoring which will lead to malfunction of some systems. How to perform this operation? About all this and not only - later in our article.

Grounds for adjustment

For example, if the ignition is incorrectly set, it will only be possible to start the engine with difficulty, fuel consumption will also increase and power loss will occur. In other cases, improperly installed ignition resulted in engine overheating or detonation. Therefore, adjustment is one of the components of the current repair of the car. Currently, there are many ways to set the ignition on cars. Ignition for machines is installed with or without a strobe.

Operating procedure using a strobe

To make adjustments with a strobe, you need to prepare a strobe, car kit, dielectric gloves.

Carry out an event for setting the ignition should be in the open space, without visible interference in the form of sunlight. The strobe must be in good working order, without mechanical damage, as during the work it is possible to get an electric shock.

Stages of work

Setting the moment of ignition with a stroboscope is quite simple. It is necessary:

  1. Read the safety instructions for the device carefully.
  2. Switch off the engine.
  3. Connect the instrument to the battery with the help of special clamps with strict observance of the polarity.
  4. Attach the signal cable to the spark plug wire of the first cylinder to form a connection with the device.
  5. When working, it is necessary to prevent the wires from getting into rotating aggregates.
  6. Find the white marks on the crankshaft pulley (or flywheel) and engine casing.
  7. Install the gearshift lever to the neutral.
  8. Start the engine.
  9. Using dielectric gloves and after waiting for stabilization of idling, slightly loosen the bolt of fastening the turns of the trampler.
  10. With the help of a strobe lamp, highlight the previously found marks.
  11. Slow rotation of the body of the trambler to achieve coincidence marks.
  12. Switch off the engine.
  13. Disconnect the device.

Strobe replacement device

Due to the use of this unit, it is quite easy to configure the ignition. But there are situations when it is necessary to adjust the advance angle without this device. Setting the ignition timing without a stroboscope is also possible. In this case, the driver should not despair, because you can use an ordinary neon lamp. True, it is necessary to produce work in a darker time of day. It is forbidden to work on setting the ignition angle in an enclosed space. Exhaust fumes can become a source of lethal poisoning. In addition, when carrying out repairs, a medium-sized flashlight is required in order to protect yourself from getting into working parts of the car. The device that will replace the strobe should be done by yourself. To do this, take a piece of plastic pipe 15 mm and on one side to fix the collecting lens. Inside the tube you need to place a neon lamp type TH-0,3. You can use a different type. The main thing is that it should match the brightness. From the lamp it is necessary to withdraw two wires, one of which will be connected to the mass of the car, and the second will be wound on the high-voltage wire of the candle of the first cylinder. It is necessary to wind over the insulation of 10 turns. Wires should be with a thick wall of insulation, while they are not screwed to the lamp, but soldered. When working with a homemade device, you can not keep it in your hands, as a breakdown of the insulation of the high-voltage spark plug wire can occur and, as a result, you can get a serious injury. Ignition test on diesel engines

Diesel engines almost do not differ from gasoline with certain properties, but they are also demanding of setting the ignition. The adjustment is carried out immediately after the installation of the ignition distributor in the case when the value of the ignition timing at idle does not correspond to the required values.

  1. If the car has air conditioning, you must turn it off. The engine, in turn, should be heated to the average working rate, that is, the temperature of the coolant should be 80 degrees.
  2. After warming up, it is necessary to stop the motor.
  3. Further, the tachometer is connected to the 1st and the 15th terminal of the ignition coil. The ignition must be switched off at this point.
  4. The strobe connects according to the polarity rules to the battery. A separate terminal is connected to the I / O wire of the first cylinder.
  5. Then, from the pressure control valve, the hose must be removed for engine ventilation. Remove the hose so that in the end it only gets clean air.
  6. Next, you need to start the engine, alternately letting it work at both idle and high. As soon as the fan runs, only idle speed should be left in operation.
  7. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor 2-pole connector. However, turning it off may cause the engine to stop. In this case, when you restart, the connector should be reinstalled. If this is not done, the adjustment of the ignition timing will be incorrect.
  8. If the engine does not stop when the sensor plug is disconnected, it is necessary to let it run at a higher speed.
  9. The light of the strobe lamp should be sent to the crankcase. To avoid damage from the fan, it is previously disconnected.
  10. If the risk of a moment corresponds to a mark, then you do not need to adjust the ignition.

Ignition adjustment on diesel engines

In other cases, it may be necessary to set the ignition timing. To do this, it is enough to unscrew the locking screw a little and set the position of the distributor so that the label coincides with the risk. Then, tighten the locking screws. They must be tightened using a torque wrench to control the tightening torque. The tightening torque should be 25 N / m.

After this, it is necessary to connect the temperature sensor and press the gas pedal sharply three times. Then again look at the coincidence of the marks. With a positive combination of circumstances, the measuring instruments should be removed. Do not forget about the previously disconnected fan drive.

Ignition timing - carburetor

On cars VAZ the installation of the moment of ignition is spent absolutely simply. With the adjustment can handle even novice motorists. The engine, as in any case, should be silenced. Next, you need to set the position of the piston of the 1st cylinder in the TDC, after unscrewing and removing the candles, and open the openings with the cotton wool. Further, the KV and risk label on the engine cover is combined. Combination is performed by cranking the crankshaft with the help of a special switch at 38 clockwise. As soon as the cotton wool is pushed out of the holes, the shaft is turned slowly until the risks are aligned. It is worth remembering that VAZ cars have three marks, which correspond to the advance of ignition. For example, the first risk indicates a 10 degree angle of ignition timing, the second is 5 0 , and the third corresponds to a zero degree. The car VAZ 2107 with the carburetor motor can work both on 92, and on 95 gasoline. Therefore, for these types of fuel, you must configure the ignition. To do this, you need to select an angle advance of 5 degrees. After that, you need to install the candles in place.

Setting the moment of ignition (VAZ-2107 carburetor - not an exception) does not end there. Next, you need to take the carabiner wrench to 13 and slightly unscrew the nut of the ignition distributor. You can use a regular light bulb or take a voltmeter. One wire is connected to the ground, the other to the low-voltage tap of the coil. Functional Testing

Setting the moment of ignition of the VAZ-2106 is checked in a simple way: it is necessary to accelerate the car to a speed within 40-50 km / h, turn on the fourth gear and press the gas pedal sharply. If the ignition adjustment has been carried out correctly, at this point, characteristic knocking should occur for a few seconds. If no knocking was heard, you need to turn the body of the switch clockwise and put the ignition back on again.
