How to use the proxy server

The general principles of interaction between the network interface of a personal computer and the global Internet are familiar to virtually every schoolboy, as the idea of this is given even in the introductory lessons of computer science. That's only the question "How to use a proxy?" Sometimes it remains unlighted. The teacher is partly right, because this mechanism is not necessary for all Internet users. At the same time, for some, it seems extremely important and necessary. Today we will talk about how to use the proxy, and give some advantages of this solution.

Let's first recall the general scheme of the Internet. The user runs a browser on his computer and types a query in the search box. Next, the browser sends it to the network interface (card, modem), which, according to the rules of the Internet protocol, generates data packets from it and sends it to a specialized computer called a server. If the information is found, the response is generated and sent to the user, otherwise the request is sent to the following servers. If the global network is presented in the form of a web (now such a comparison is very popular), then each server is a node in which the spider beams converge. It is these sites that store all the sites, all the data, and the rays are just lines of communication.

In other words, the traditional scheme is represented as:

"The owner of the computer is the requested site".

However, there is a remarkable mechanism for proxy servers, which greatly extends the capabilities of the standard scheme. It consists in the fact that the data packets coming from the user's computer to the site (the hub server) first get to the intermediate link, where they are processed in a certain way. That is, the scheme becomes:

"The owner of the computer - the link - the requested site."

This additional element of the scheme is called a proxy server. It can be either a software or a hardware solution - the result of the work is the same. For example, anonymous proxy servers remove user information from the network packets (host country, IP address, operating system, etc.). A striking example is the Tor project. So, just download Opera Tor, run and use it as a regular browser - all information about your computer will be cut from the packages.

But the caching proxy retains some of the information received, speeding up the subsequent work with resources already visited. How to use a proxy server?

If it is a specialized program on the computer (for example, Handy Cache or Cool Proxy), you should change the Internet Explorer (IE) settings. Usually the programs provide instructions on how to use the proxy, so it's useful to read the documentation.

Start IE and in the Tools menu, go to Properties. Here we go to the "Connection - Setup". In the window we assign the IP address and port number of the proxy server. Disable the use for local (normal work Webmoney, etc.). Please note that if your Internet connection is made through a network card, the change is made to the "Network Setup". Everything, IE and Chrome are ready to work with the proxy program. In Opera and Firefox, write the proxy settings in the appropriate settings. For proxy programs installed on the computer, usually the address is 127.0.0.1, and port 8080. And how to use the proxy, if it is a resource on the Web? In fact, the setting is the same. We learn on the site of the proxy server its address, port and register in the browser.
