Kraft paper. Packing material of the present and future

A variety of packaging materials are often used by people in everyday life. Their range is quite diverse. This polyethylene, and air bubble film, and cardboard, and foam foam, and plastic packaging, and paper craft, and much more. Important criteria when choosing the material for packaging are strength, convenience, aesthetic appearance, environmental friendliness. The last criterion in our time is especially relevant, because a huge amount of packaging material is thrown out daily on landfills, and the issue of their proper disposal is vital for the safety of the environment. The above mentioned requirements are met by the especially strong wrapping paper-kraft, used for packing purposes and the manufacture of various paper products.

Benefits

In German, the word "kraft" means "power," "power." Indeed, the paper of this class is distinguished by its high strength characteristics, including by such indicators as resistance to kinking, punching. Packaging of this material is well glued, does not swell when moisture gets, has air permeability and resistance to temperature drop. Paper kraft has a natural origin, which indicates its ecological purity.

Production technology

The technology for manufacturing high-strength wrapping paper has been known since 1852, but the production of this packaging material has become industrial scale only a century later. From the United States, where the kraft paper was invented for the first time, the way of its production spread all over the world. The base for the production is long-fiber pulp, which is obtained from wood as a result of sulphate cooking, known as kraft process. It is the wood base that provides high strength characteristics and stability of the paper to mechanical damage, and besides, it allows the further use of this material as a secondary raw material.

Kinds

The color of the kraft paper depends on the quality of the cellulose that is included in its composition. Brown paper is produced from unbleached wood, and a range of shades from light yellow to white gives bleached raw materials. This packing material serves for the production of corrugated cardboard, convenient paper bags, bags, boxes, and envelopes. In addition, paper kraft is produced in rolls and sheets of different sizes.

The material has a small volume and weight, easy to use. All products are characterized by high strength, which is higher the higher the paper density (in the range of 35-120 g / m2). The most dense is washable paper kraft. Its main difference is its resistance to moisture. In texture, this material resembles the skin, it can be ironed, washed, sewed, so washable kraft paper is often used in the textile industry.

Application

The unique properties of this material make it possible to use it in many spheres of human activity, primarily as unique packaging products. That just does not fit in high-strength bags and bags of kraft paper! These are loose building materials, foodstuffs, and various items that need to be preserved when delivered. Such a strong airtight container is a reliable protection when transporting various goods, as well as fragile items. Large volume envelopes from kraft paper for packing postal items are very popular.

Products made of this material become an excellent means of advertising, if they bear the advertising text or the logo of the manufacturer. To stack the goods sold to the buyer, sellers often use boxes with a bright print and colorful packages of various configurations, with or without handles. Such attractive packaging not only reminds buyers of pleasant acquisitions, but can serve them for a long time for any purpose.

Color kraft paper is also used for decorative and artistic works, for example in scrapbooking or for making postcards, and in typographical for book covers.

Application of kraft paper in medicine

Kraft bags have found wide application in medicine. They are used for packing and temporary sterilization of medical instruments and sets of any kind. The packaging is sealed with adhesive tape. In closed form, the packages are impervious to microorganisms for about 50 days. The indicator on the outside of the package after sterilization changes color from green to pink, which makes it easy to determine where the sterile medical material is.

Kraft paper gradually and steadily replaces synthetic packaging materials, harmful to human health and dangerous to the environment, which, given the unique properties and low cost of this material, no one is surprised.
