How to make a volcano? Volcano model with own hands

All children are curious, many of them are interested in a variety of natural phenomena. Any child wants to know what a tsunami, tornado or volcanic eruption looks like . All these unusual phenomena can be used as ideas for creativity and home learning. How to make a real volcano at home? The model of the eruption is not difficult to build with your own hands from improvised materials.

Volcanoes - what is this?

Let us recall the structure of the earth: beneath the solid crust there is magma-a molten rock that can harden, seep to the surface through thin cracks or erupt through large holes. In the latter case we are talking about volcanoes. Most often these are mountains located on the joints of continental plates. But sometimes volcanoes can appear in a relatively short period of time in a terrain with an almost flat terrain. Most often, lava-ejecting mountains are represented as high enough and have the right shape. But in reality, volcanoes are different, including low, can resemble visually small hills. At the time of the eruption, magma and gases under considerable pressure emerge on the surface of the earth. Often at this moment, explosions occur, and some volcanoes gush forth with red-hot lava like geysers.

We master the workpiece for the "fiery mountain" with our own hands

"How to make a model of a volcano at home?" - a popular question of parents who decided to spend an interesting creative activity with children. To make this craft, you will need: a cardboard or plastic bottle, paper or plaster, paints and some auxiliary tools that can be found in every home.

Prepare some basis for crafting. This can be a piece of plastic, for example a lid from a food tray, or some dense material - plywood, cardboard. Cut the top of the bottle, this will be the volcano, respectively, and leave the height for it at your discretion. An alternative option is to make a base of a cardboard cone of a suitable size. Attention: if your volcano is an operating model that will erupt more than once, the base must be a sealed container. Densely adhere the cut off part of the bottle to a plastic base, using a waterproof glue or sealant. You can cut the bottom and top of the tank and insert them into each other.

Decor of the volcano

The workpiece should be a sort of cone or cylinder with a narrow tip on the stand. Once this structure dries, it's time to tackle its decor. To decorate the mountain slopes, take decorative plaster or prepare a paper mass from which you can create a papier-mache. In the second case, it is better to take white napkins, paper towels or toilet paper. Crush the raw material by wetting it with a mixer and add some PVA glue. In this case, the mass will be uniform and easy to apply.

How to make a model of a volcano with your own hands from the existing workpiece? Everything is very simple. Cover the cardboard cone or part of the plastic bottle with the selected sculpted material. Form a semblance of a mountain - with an extension at the foot and sharp top. Do not forget to leave the crater hole at the top. Much more interesting your volcano will look if you make a surface ribbed, covered with a network of canals, through which the lava flow will flow picturesquely. When the simulation is complete, dry the workpiece well. After that you can start painting it. If you use non-waterproof paints, you can also coat the craft with a clear varnish. That's all - the volcano (model) is ready, if desired, work on the surrounding landscape. If the size of the stand allows, make trees, draw grass or sand, you can add figures of people and animals.

A simple version of crafts made of plasticine

If the above described method of making a home "fiery mountain" seems to you too laborious, try to make it in a simpler technique. A small volcano can be dazzled from plasticine. Take the brown material for modeling or mix all the blocks in the set until you get a uniform "dirty" shade. Blind the cone with the hole from above, if desired, mark the relief. If your volcano is an operating model and is made for an "eruption", glue it on a plaque or a plastic panel / tray from the food packaging. Try to make the connection tight. In addition, you can decorate the artwork with red plasticine, depicting the frozen lava on the slopes of the mountain.

Eruption begins!

Most often, the "volcano" is used to conduct a domestic "eruption". Do not be afraid, this experiment is completely safe. Take a small amount of baking soda, a dye of a suitable shade and a drop of dishwashing detergent (can be replaced with a couple of pinch detergent powders). Mix all the ingredients and place them inside the mountain (take care of the special groove beforehand). In order to begin to rise from the crater of the hot lava with foam, you just need to drip a little vinegar. Such an interesting experiment will amaze the kids and surprise schoolchildren. The volcano eruption model will help not only to interest children, but also to tell them in interesting form about the interaction of soda and vinegar.

Entertaining or entertaining chemistry?

Making this craft even with the youngest children should be combined with training. Tell us about volcanoes and their education, give interesting historical facts. Such a homework will surely be remembered better than the subsequent lessons of chemistry. When conducting the "eruption" also try to explain that with the help of domestic chemical experience we only simulate a real natural phenomenon. The reaction itself deserves special consideration. Invite the child to think and describe the interaction of the two substances. It is also useful to draw a conclusion with a chemical explanation of the experience.

Model of the volcano in the section: how to do?

In addition to making crafts depicting the general view of the fiery mountain, it is not difficult at home to make another training model. We are talking about the model of the volcano in a section - respectively, to its half with a demonstration of the inner layers. What is the mountain that spews lava and ashes? The volcano is a collection of different rocks, respectively, the layers can be made in various colors: from yellow to dark brown. Do not forget to map the crater at the top and from it to the very bottom lay a channel through which the lava rises. This model of a volcano made of plasticine is most convenient. Your layout can be voluminous (a mountain cut in half) or flat. Use materials of different colors and combine the layers in the correct sequence. If you are doing a flat layout, you can additionally show how the magma rises to the earth's crust and finds an outlet to the surface through the crater of the volcano.
