How is liver cancer treated in Israel?

By origin , liver cancer can be primary, that is, developed from liver structures and cells or - secondary (the result of the process of penetrating the liver metastasis malignant neoplasm, which appeared in other organs). The prevalence of this disease turns the problem of assistance in liver cancer in Israel into a very important task for specialists in the field of oncology.

To the types of primary liver cancer carry:

  • Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer developing from the bile ducts);
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (a cancer that develops from hepatic cells - hepatocytes).

The most common is the secondary early liver cancer. Metastases, often, tend to germinate precisely in this body of a person, because the liver acts as the main filter of the body. In this case, by itself, it is necessary to eliminate and primary cancer, that is, the underlying tumor.

Treatment of liver cancer in Israel

Basically, with the diagnosis of liver cancer, a surgical method of treatment is used. The choice of one of the possible methods of conducting the operation depends on the patient's condition. They include:

  • Lobectomy (implying removal of that part of the liver that the tumor had managed to capture);
  • Hemihepatectomy (resection of the liver half, isolated anatomically).
  • During and after a surgical operation, it is necessary to carry out:
  • Express liver biopsy of the liver together with lymph nodes, which is carried out, directly, during the operation;
  • Pathological and chemical analysis of the removed neoplasm (after the operation).

As for liver transplantation, it can be noted that in Israel this operation is possible only if the patient has a close relative, since the sale or purchase of donor organs is not legal. In the presence of a donor, liver transplantation can be performed when:

  • There is one formation, the size of which does not exceed five centimeters;
  • There is one or two neoplasms, the size of each of which does not exceed three centimeters;
  • The progress of neoplasm is absent, at least during the half year and its size does not exceed seven centimeters.

Currently, Israel has developed methods that allow transplanting a part of the liver, which eventually will become a full-fledged organ, thanks to its unique abilities for regeneration. This allows you to maintain a functioning organ both in the patient and in the donor.

In addition, it is necessary to know that liver transplantation in Israel is carried out only from a related donor.

It happens that surgical care for liver cancer in Israel is impossible. In such situations, Israeli medical institutions resort to other types of treatment developed in the liver of a malignant tumor. They include:

  • Cryoablation (carried out by freezing, using liquid nitrogen, neoplastic cells);
  • Ablation under the control of the procedure by ultrasound (needles injected into the tumor with ethanol, a drug that destroys cancer cells);
  • Radiofrequency ablation under the control of CT, or ultrasound (when through small incisions in the peritoneum, the needle is injected with electrocurrent-heated needles, which leads to the destruction of tumor cells.) It is also possible to inject pure alcohol into cells, which can also destroy them;
  • Use of cyber knife (radiosurgical method, which is used, including, to eliminate metastases);
  • Chemoembolisation - one of the types of chemical therapy, in which drugs are injected into the liver (during this procedure, the hepatic artery that supplies the tumor with blood is blocked);
  • The use of rational therapy - the destruction of the tumor with the help of powerful radiation, which is aimed at cancers;
  • The use of the SIRT method, which is a selective intrahepatic radiotherapy, acting through high-level radiation that destroys the tumor.
