Herpetic tonsillitis

Herpetic angina is an acute infectious disease that is caused by Coxsackie viruses. This group of viruses belongs to the family of enteroviruses (parasites in the intestine). Some of them are often found in healthy people. Herpetic angina is a contagious disease transmitted by airborne droplets (through droplets of saliva of a sick person in the air) and fecal-oral (by means of unwashed hands after toilet) by. After 7 days from the beginning of the pathological process, the patient becomes harmless to others. The disease can be infected and from the virus carrier - a healthy person, in which the presence of the virus in the body does not affect the health status.

Herpetic angina in children - characteristic signs:
It occurs mainly in the infancy and early childhood, most often in the summer. Suddenly, the child's temperature rises to 39 - 40 degrees.
Disturbed muscle weakness, poor health, dizziness. The kid becomes capricious, restless, irritable. Complains of pain when swallowing and refuses to eat. Lymph nodes in the neck area increase, but do not hurt.

If you examine the throat of a sick child, then on the palatine arch, soft palate, tongue and tonsils you can see transparent bubbles, the size of a wheaten grain. Some time after the onset, the vesicles burst and turn into surface ulceration (erosion), surrounded by a red rim. After recovery, the erosion is healed without leaving any traces.
Sometimes, herpangina can be accompanied by vesicular stomatitis with skin changes. In this case, vesicles (vesicles) appear on the tongue, gums and the inner surface of the cheeks. In addition, they can be seen on the feet and palms. Presence of rashes on the feet and palms is called enterovirus exanthema. The course of the disease is benign, the temperature persists for several days.
Herpetic angina does not cause any interest in medical science, tk. Always ends in recovery. But this does not mean that it does not need to be treated. It is especially important to carefully treat newborns. Due to immature immunity in this age group, such serious complications as inflammation of the brain and heart muscle can easily and quickly occur.

Herpetic angina in children - treatment:
1. Bed rest, isolation of a sick child
2. Light, liquid, vitamin-rich food
3. Plentiful drinking
4. Antiviral agents (interferon, cycloferon, antiviral immunoglobulins)
5. Antipyretic drugs (ibuprofen, paracetamol, nimesil in children over 12 years old)
6. Antiallergic agents (suprastin, loratadine, cytisine, dimedrol)
7. Local treatment: irrigation or rinsing of the mouth with solutions of antiseptics (furacillin, manganese, decoction of the bark of oak). In order to accelerate the healing of ulcers, they are treated with sea buckthorn oil.

In case of severe disease, intravenous infusion of glucose-salt solutions should be used.

If you can not cure yourself, it is advisable to seek qualified medical help.

Herpetic tonsillitis: prevention

Isolation of the patient should last 2 weeks. Vaccination is not carried out. With continued contact with the patient to prevent infection, human interferon can be used 5 drops twice a day in each nasal passage for 14 days. Antiviral ointments ("Virogel", "Oxolin") have a good preventive effect.
Herpetic angina leaves behind a persistent, lifelong immunity that protects the human body from re-infection. But, it should be noted that in case of infection with another serotype of the virus, the disease may break out again.
