The list of his services to the fatherland is so great that you can write more than a dozen pages, only listing them. But with all this, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear his name: "This is the first person to have been in space." It was he who on April 12, 1961 aboard the ship "Vostok" was able to conquer heavenly spaces for the first time. Therefore, the monuments to Gagarin, whose photos will be presented below, serve as a reminder of the strength of the human will and the desire for a dream.

Monument in the Russian capital

In the sunny summer of 1980 on Leninsky Prospekt a new monument appeared before the people's eyes. The height of the creation was 42.5 meters, which immediately distinguished it against the background of other structures. It was immortalized in it was the great test pilot Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin. The monument was the work of the great architect of the time PI Bondarenko. In addition to the pilot himself, there was a Vostok spacecraft in the monument. The place for its erection was symbolic. It was on the Leningrad Prospect that Yuri Gagarin drove up to the building of the Central Committee of the CPSU to report on the first flight into space. In addition, this area is one of the largest in Moscow, which further increased the importance of this structure for society. To create the monument, titanium was used. It is this material that serves to fabricate the shell of spaceships. Balashikha Foundry, which managed to fulfill all the tasks in a very short time, took up the execution of the order. To create the design had to make 238 different parts, which were subsequently bolted and welded. The total weight of the sculpture was 12 tons, and this meant that the monument to Gagarin in Moscow was the greatest work of architecture of that time. The official opening was a great cultural event and gathered more than one thousand guests. Many representatives of space organizations of the Soviet Union were invited. Also, the widow and daughter of Gagarin took part. Yuri himself before this event, unfortunately, did not live to see it.

Other cities

Another symbolic place was Orenburg, because it was here in the school Gagarin got his first flight epaulettes. As later the pilot himself will say: "Orenburg gave me wings." So, on April 12, 1986 a monument appeared here, in which Gagarin was immortalized. The monument depicts the cosmonaut himself in a flying suit standing full-length and lifting both hands up. The most sad reminder is the obelisk in the village of Novoselovo, which is in the Vladimir region. It was here on March 27, 1968, on the tests of a new aircraft, Yuri Gagarin and his assistant Vladimir Sorokin were killed.

And now, half a century later, on July 14, 2011, a monument to Yuri Gagarin was erected in Trafalgar Square . It is an exact copy of what stands near the craft school in Lyubertsy, in the suburbs.
