Full discography of Metallica: how it was

The band's history began in 1981, when two friends, Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, began looking for other musicians to fully form the band. To date, these two remain the undisputed leaders of the group.

Start

Composition on the eve of recording the first album also included Cliff Burton, Kirk Hammett, and Dave Mustaine. Friends played, inspired by the repertoire of English heavy metal bands that were in vogue in the early 80's. Their rehearsals included covers for other people's songs, but soon they began to write their own material.

Composer's talent of Burton and Mustaine allowed to create a somewhat different music than the one that was common in those years. Discography Metallica on the first albums included a lot of fast songs with a lot of riffs and solos.

Debut Records

Starting «Kill 'em All» ("Kill them all") made the group extremely popular among the underground and youth. He appeared on the shelves in 1983. High tempo and catchy melodies have become the hallmark of young guys. However, shortly after the release of the record, Mustaine quarreled with his comrades and founded his own band Megadeth.

The second album "Ride the Lightning" was released in the following year, 1984, and deserved even greater success thanks in part to the unusual song Fade to black. Its feature was the slow, sad first part, unusual for the genre. Discography Metallica eventually received a lot of similar numbers, which also received the name of metal ballads.

The third record "Master of Puppets" ("Puppeteer") became a cult. Refined to the ideal of composer art, a lot of diverse episodes of songs, a memorable manner of singing Hatfield - all this brought the album a unique status.

Death of Cliff

As a rule, after the release the band went on tour. This time it covered already a lot of countries, including Europe. It was there that a misfortune happened on the way. The team's tour bus was involved in an accident in which Cliff Burton, the group's main composer, was killed. After his death, bassist Jason Newsted took over. However, he could not get such influence in the group as his predecessor in Metallica. Participants decided to continue their activities and began to prepare for recording a new record.

It was called "... And Justice for All". It mainly consisted of long compositions with a complex structure. Because of this, some songs were not performed at concerts. The texts received a sharp social shade (the system of justice, relations with the state, etc.). The name was inspired by the film of the same name.

Black album

In 1991, there was an unexpected turn for Metallica. The album with the same name received a light sound and was the most commercially successful in the career of musicians. He received the epithet "black" because of the dark, impenetrable cover with the logo of the group and the silhouette of the snake.

Many fans have not accepted such changes and still believe that Metallica ended after the first four albums.

90th

In the middle of this decade, the band released two studio records, which were conceived as a double release. However, due to the inconvenience of the format, it was decided to split it in half and release each part separately. The albums were called "Load" and "Reload" ("Download" and "Reload"). In them, the last tendencies to sound simplification continued. There were elements of the blues, and in some places the references to the 70th slipped.

In 1998, the compilation "Garage Inc." was released. It was made up of covers for the songs of the musicians' idols. These were songs in the genre of punk and hard rock. Some of them were released as singles.

The next year a unique concert took place. On it the musicians played together with the symphony orchestra. For academic instruments, new arrangements of old songs were written. The concert was recorded on video and released on a DVD called "S & M". It showed the new side of the work of Metallica. The best songs got a second wind.

2000

At the beginning of the new decade, the group paused with the injury to the hand of front man James Hatfield. He crashed on a skateboard. Soon it was also announced that bassist Jason Newsted was leaving the project. He was replaced by Robert Trujillo in 2003. Since then, the composition of the group has not changed.

The same year the eighth studio album "St. Anger "(" Righteous Anger "). He was the most unusual in the band's discography. The recording was conducted in unusual conditions: the sound resembled a rehearsal in the garage. In terms of performance, the influence of young popular bands was felt. The responses to the novelty were the most controversial.

Five years later came "Death Magnetic" ("Death Magnetism"). It was noted the return of the band to the style and sound of the 80's, when the musicians performed trash metal. On this record, today's discography is over. Metallica claims that the group's 10 album will be released in the coming years.

Recently, the musicians released a record made in conjunction with the legendary singer Lou Reed, who was popular in the sixties. This was another experiment by Metallica. Participants wanted to play something qualitatively new.

Also, do not forget about the many bootlegs and fan collections, without which their discography can not do. Metallica, despite its age, remains on the crest of the wave.
